im thinking of starting kundalini yoga?

Any other suggestions. what do you think about kabbalah sufism, buddhism and gnostism in general. i would love to hear personal experiences.

  1. Don’t have much experience with any except for Buddhism. But I’ll give it a go since I’m guessing you aren’t going to get a ton of answers because this isn’t about Noah’s Ark or monkeys or Jesus or whatever…
Kabbalah, besides being a trendy Hollywood scam, is based on Jewish mysticism. If you are into that sort of thing, have fun trying to make sense of it. I highly doubt any of it is based in reality.
Sufism is a mystical form of Islam. Very interesting. I wish I knew more about it.
Buddhism is one of the few religions I respect because it is more psychology than religion. Buddhists do not believe in a god. However, there is a tremendous amount of complex superstition. If you can get through it and make sense of it you should be proud of yourself. I’d recommend a book called ‘The Three Pillars of Zen’ by Suzuki (I think?). Good book.
Gnosticism is a bit tricky. The original Gnostic’s were a ‘cult’ that is associated with the early christians. (But weren’t really.) The basic idea was that if you want to reach the ‘spirit world’ you don’t need a middleman like a priest to get you there. Very complex history.
Hope this was of some help. There are good sources out there on all these subjects and there are very poor New Age sources. You can tell the difference by reading a paragraph in the book and asking ‘How does this person know this is true and how could it be true?’ Trust me, there are a lot of flakes out there.
I just realized I didn’t say anything about yoga. I don’t know much about it but it looks painful.
    Good luck.

  2. Well In my reading and studying of Saivite Hindu religion, I’ve learn that yoga is not to be taken lightly. It is a spiritual practice and must be approached as such. the kundalini energy is very powerful and must be channelled in the correct way. My advice would be to see religious guidance from a yoga master/instructor and allow him to advise you.

  3. Sounds like you’re a seeker of truth.? I’ve had some experience with all the spiritual paths that you mentioned. Each has it’s potential strength and some have some definite drawbacks. Do you know what it is that you’re trying to achieve?
