I’m a Christian and am writing a fantasy story centering around dreams. I planned on making one of my characters be reincarnated so a particular ability of his could live on for a while. Now apparently, the bible heavily opposes reincarnation depicting it as evil.

So if I write that in my story, will it be wrong and won’t be acceptable? I asked this in the religion/spirituality section for a reason, because I’d rather Christians answer.

  • Chapter and verse, please. The Bible does not condemn reincarnation. The word does not appear there. The Bible says the dead will rise again.

    Mark 12:
24Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26Now about the dead rising–have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

    Philippians 3:21
who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

    Revelation 20
4They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

  • The Bible says nothing against reincarnation Christians do.
John the Baptist was the reincarnation of Elijah.

    Jesus said of John

    Matthew 11:14
And if ye will receive it, this is Elias(or Elijah), which was for to come.

Until the year 545 all Christians believed in reincarnation when the Roman Emperor Justinian arrested Pope Vigilius and forced him to draft a papal decree which stated..

“If anyone asserts the fabulous preexistence of souls, and shall assert the monstrous restoration which follows from it: let him be anathema.”

Other Christians continued to believe in reincarnation especially the Gnostics but the first Inquisition in 1307 ended that.

Now it’s believed without question that Christians never believed in reincarnation.

  • i’m probably not the right one to ask, but i would not include something like that in a story i wrote. it could lead some astray, and it does go against God’s word.

but then, your story is fantasy… but yeah, i wouldn’t do it, personally. also, i kind of think since you are questioning it, maybe it is the Lord telling you not to. have you prayed about it?

  • I don’t think the bible denounces reincarnation but christians do….

I’ve had prophets tell me that John the baptist is the reincarnated Elijah… and Jesus said that John was the Elijah was to come…

There is scripture backing up reincarnation and refuting it depending on how you interpret the bible and on what you interpret in the bible…
