i have a hard time justifying magick, please help.?

ok i began learning about wicca and magick a long time ago, but ive taken down the road of philosophy, and in justifying magick i find it very hard to do short of maybe five spells. i feel very stuck, i feel like i am being too careful with magick and wasteing it by not useing it at all. i need someone to help me understand why magick is just as important as doing things without it. no religious ranting please.

The older that I get, the less that I feel a need for magic. I pray, meditate, and trust in my deities. It works for me. I’ve never felt that there was anything wrong with that or that I need to cast a certain number of spells every year. Everything has an ebb and flow. I see nothing wrong with being careful with spell work. Sometimes if you cast a spell to help a situation you may miss a needed opportunity to grow in another way.

As a Wiccan, I’ve got to say that this is one instance in which belonging to a tradition could help you very much. The idea of wasting magic(k) is a new one to me, as is the idea that you *must* do magic. It seems like you need a good teacher, because doing it on your own isn’t working for you. It’s usually better to study with someone, anyone, and THEN move out and do it alone than to try to reinvent the wheel. Go to the witches’ voice, http://www.witchvox.com and search traditions. Find one that doesn’t charge or say… Read more »

I have no compunction telling Creationists that their religiously-based claims are totally counter-factual, so I have no problem telling you that a belief that “magic” of any kind will affect the real world is wrong too.

Now, if going through the motions of casting a spell focuses you, makes you take your upcoming decisions or actions more seriously, then it is doing something. If they change your mindset, then that change in your mindset is totally real. But not for any of the hocus-pocus reasons.

I find it best to interpret Magick as being, “The Art (and Science) of being Human.” Magick, being an art form, need only be justified by the impulse to create, just as a painter need only the impulse to put paint to canvass. If you don’t see the point in doing a particular method of doing Magick, then perhaps that method is simply not for you. I take a more practical and Thelemic approach to Magick, in that I interpret every willed action as magick. This is where the science comes in. By empirically testing what actions bring about results,… Read more »

There is nothing wrong with being cautious with magic. It is best that you learn to deal with things without casting a spell every time you want something. But you do realize that we use magick in everyday life without casting spells. Sometimes we just need to realize that by using our will for mundane things works just as well as a full out right spell. I rarely have to cast a spell anymore. I just focus my intent/ will gather my energy and go for it. Like I have a big job ahead of me and it seem almost… Read more »

The jedi guy has it about right but also look at it this way – while justifying it to yourself – think that you are taking ahold of nature and fate and making it your own. Magick is very much a rather large muscle. You could also call it the vein of existance. As it courses through all of us. Just some of us choose to rec. Those of us that choose to rec. it, need to know how to us it. Keep learning and you will find that it is more and more justified philosphically, spiritually and mentaly. Brightest… Read more »

All “magick” must conform to your “True Will” or it’s black magic. Therefore all magic is black magic until you’ve discovered what your Will is, save insofar as it assists you in that discovery. Magick in the technical sense is not for tinkerers. If you aren’t prepared to make it your very life’s blood you have no business messing with it at all. Using “magical powers” for ends that you could achieve in other ways is always black magic. But in the wider sense of “Magick” as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the… Read more »

The Satanic Bible has a clever and skeptical approach to magic without calling it fake or imaginary.

think of magick as a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it becomes. Magick is something that you tap into rather than create, so by using it you really aren’t wasting it..

just remember the three fold law…
