How to make a magic circle?

Does anyone know the best way to measure out a magic circle on the ground to where it will be very precise in measurement. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, this will be for an outdoor ritual in the woods (forest) so if anyone has any experience drawing circles in the woods, any thing that would help, that would also be appreciated. The main thing is that it needs to be visible and precise so any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  1. Larry, I don’t wish you any harm, but I think you should really learn about what you’re doing here. Casting a circle isn’t just drawing a line on the ground. Whether you are going to work from inside the circle, like a witch, or outside it, like a magician, you MUST know EXACTLY what you are going to do with the circle before you start. Your question doesn’t convince me that you do. Get expert advice from someone who is willing to give it to you. I’m not, as I know that to do so is to take responsibility for what you are about to do, and I don’t know any witch who would be prepared to do that.

  2. I agree with John, you should really be careful. If you don’t know what you’re doing it could end very badly.
    Blessed be.

  3. I’ve always done it by measuring the tree closest to the center of where I want my circle. I put a stake in the center and attach a string to it, then walk out to the tree (or to the distance that will accommodate all members of my party with ease, whichever is closer). That distance is the radius of my circle. Measuring for anything but comfort and necessity is a luxury in wooded areas. You usually don’t get that much clear space.
I place candles on the ground by simply starting in the north and placing a candle every 3 steps or so as I walk holding my string. Then I sprinkle herbs, except where the entrance will be. (My mix is of dried sage, rosemary and angelica.) And lastly I sprinkle salt water.
Once everyone is in the circle, light your candles, close your entrance, and do your ritual. Good Luck!

  4. A magic circle DOES NOT need to be measured! Most circles aren’t perfect anyway, they are more of an oval shape (lol). You can make a magic circle anywhere by tracing your athame/wand/finger in a circle around yourself (or your coven) and visualizing blue flames circling you or a glowing white light/orb around you. (BTW, there are so many different techniques for making the magic circle, the two above are the ones I usually use, that’s why I put them). Also, the magic circle isn’t exactly “visible”. Some people may actually “carve” the outline into the ground, but most of the time all you need to do is trace the circle not indent it! I agree with the people before me; you don’t seem to really know what you’re doing, so learn more before attempting a ritual or circle! Thanks! *Tiger-lily Rain*
