How Often Would I Have to Do Yoga and How Long To Achieve Weight Loss?

How long per session and how many times a week should I be doing yoga to loose weight? I am looking to loose about 30lbs. What else do you suggest I do to maximize my weight loss? I don’t eat that much, I eat healthy, I watch my sugar intake, I take walks, I’m active around the house. Anything else I should do besides yoga? I’m going to start weight lifting and swimming here in a few weeks when it warms up around here (east coast girl). Thanks.

Eating the right food is important for your wellbeing. You can try supplementing your diet with acai berry, it is not only a widely tested and acknowledged weight loss produce, it is a superfood too. There’s a risk free trial available at I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and it’s certainly working!!

Unfortunately, despite numerous benefits (clearer skin, better peace of mind, greater strength, posture, and flexibility) yoga alone is unlikely to burn enough calories to lead to a lot of fat loss. Studies have shown that yoga only burns about 200 calories per hour, which is about the same as briskly walking for the same amount of time. This is no reason to stop doing yoga. In fact, studies have shown that people who do yoga tend to put on less weight over time than non-practicers, which has lead some to speculate that the “mind-body” balance that yoga promotes is the true benefit. When you practice yoga regularly, you will become more in tune with your body’s needs, which will in turn help you consume less food and lose weight.
In conclusion, don’t give up! I’ve seen many people lose weight by practicing yoga consistently, not just in class, but by keeping their yogi mindfulness moment by moment, including meal times. I recommend that you find a teacher and class that makes you feel healthy and happy in your body as it is right now, because when you love and accept yourself, you will achieve health in the long term.
On a more personal note, when I started yoga I was about 20 lbs heavier than I am now, but the weight loss happened gradually over a period of about a year of daily practice.

Yoga alone would not be the best way to lose weight. Whilst it may calm the mind & stretch the body, it doesn’t really burn much energy at all.
Besides more vigorous activity, one should also pay more careful attention to the kinds of foods eaten – often it’s improper diet that’s the underlying cause of becoming overweight.
