  1. They’re both Chinese in origin, but that’s about it.
    Confucism is a highly regimented, hierarchical way of living. It sees heaven as a bureaucracy, with some little god or spirit responsible for virtually every concept or thing. Those who live by Confucist principles tend to have very busy days, with every minute strictly scheduled and accounted for.
    Tao, on the other hand, puts forth the principle that the Way of the Universe is not to struggle and regiment, but simply to let life flow naturally, as it was meant to be. “Tao does not do, but nothing is not done,” is one of its most commonly repeated phrases. Sort of like zen, with a sense of humor. Overall, it’s a much more relaxed sort of philosophy.
