how do I stick with meditation?

I have huge amounts of stress in my life. I’ve tried meditation several times, but I can’t seem to make it a habit! When I do it, it really helps calm me down. I want to make this a daily thing to help control my stress levels. Any ideas on how to start a daily meditation habit? Any meditation tips or hints that you have? Need some help here!

Thanx!

  • Hello jeff

Meditation can be frustrating cant it, but worth the effort, the trick is to sit regardless of how you feel.

If you find that it isnt working when you need it, then have you thought about self hypnosis?

So this process of chanting Hare Krsna, if we do it very nicely… Nicely does not mean that we have to become a very nice musician or very artistic singer. No. Very nicely means sincerely and with great attention. The process is the highest yoga system. This transcendental vibration, if you simply concentrate your mind on the vibration “Hare Krsna…” Other kinds of yoga system is not possible in this age. You cannot meditate on a particular subject matter because mind is so agitating and changing that you try to fix up your mind on a particular subject matter, but mind flickers from one subject to another, another, to another. Then it becomes something else. But this vibration is so nice that even if your mind is flickering, the sound will force you to, I mean to say, draw your attention. “Hare Krsna.” So therefore… And it is very easy. For other sort of meditation, you have to learn how to sit down, how to fix up your body. You have to select a nice place, a solitary place, a purified place. You have to sit down in a certain posture. So many things. Those things are not possible at the present age because we are so much disturbed by the present atmosphere, everyone.

“We request you to chant HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA, KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE, HARE RAMA HARE RAMA, RAMA RAMA HARE HARE, and your life will be sublime.”

  • I do it first thing in the morning, before I get out of bed. I give gratitiude for life. I set my intention of peace, patience, faith and joy for the day. I surrender to the universe and I set my vibrational level to match the universal energy of harmony, balance and well being.

It only takes a few minutes everyday to nurture your connection to your source and it is so necessary to stay in balance. Remember that stress is lack of balance, it is not that your life is stressful, it is that you are EXPERIENCING IT AS STRESSFUL. Circumstances dont have to change for you to be stress free, you only need to change the way you look at the circumstances and then the way that you deal with them.

You cannot always change circumstances but you can always change how you experience them.

Laughter and Love are great stress relievers and you can choose them in any situation.

    Good Luck and stay connected!

  • God bids us fill the mind with great thoughts, pure thoughts. He desires us to meditate upon His love and mercy, to study His wonderful work in the great plan of redemption. Then clearer and still clearer will be our perception of truth, higher, holier, our desire for purity of heart and clearness of thought. The soul dwelling in the pure atmosphere of holy thought will be transformed by communion with God through the study of Scriptures.
“And bring forth fruit.” Those who, having heard the word, keep it, will bring forth fruit in obedience. The word of God, received into the soul, will be manifest in good works. Its results will be seen in a Christlike character and life. Christ said of Himself, “I delight to do Thy will, O My God; yea, Thy law is within My heart.” Psalm 40:8. “I seek not Mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent Me.” John 5:30. And the Scripture says, “He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” 1 John 2:6.

  • Meditation time is just like drinking the correct amount of water daily, taking your vitamin supplement pill, getting proper exercise – walking or whatever. If you care enough about the benefits, you must MAKE THE TIME.
I find its easier for me to do things at the same time of day every day. When I meditated daily, I did so before work (its hard finding 20 minutes before leaving home in the morning, but I did) and when I returned from home (which interfered with plans made for “after work”) Meditation is a wonderful thing. I regret that I don’t do it now, but I don’t make it a priority.

  • If you meditate, you leave your mind blank, and if you leave your mind blank, those deceptive voices might have a chance to attack you. So it’s never good to leave your mind blank and so it’s never good to meditate. You don’t have to meditate to relieve stress, who says that that’s the only way? You can choose to talk to God since He’s always willing to listen to you, despite you not being able to see Him and all. But yea telling your problems and feelings to Him is more helpful than meditating. At least you can be sure that He’s listening, since He’s definitely real and always there.

Sorry I come from a church where it’s against meditating as the devil might attack your mind when you meditate, as it’s the easiest time since there’s no hindrances when your mind is blank. The mind is the biggest battlefield between the voices of the Devil and of God after all.

If you really really want to meditate, then focus your mind on all things good, optimistic, such as God’s love for you. =)

  • Try using affirmations. For instance in the morning say “It is my primary intention to meditate for as long as I feel comfortable so that I may be in alignment with a glorious day ahead of me”. Then before you go to bed say “It is my primary intention to quiet my mind and pay attention to my breathing. If my mind wanders off I intend to gently bring it back”. Then go to sleep and wake up the next morning do the same thing. But here’s the key, don’t force it. Gently affirm yourself that you won’t give up and that your desires are eternal. If you desire to meditate and move forward that desire with positive thought and good feeling emotion, then you will inevitably have that desire manifested.

  • Discipline. You must make time to do it, no exceptions. Turn off the phone ringer, ask housemates not to disturb you for x minutes, leave the tv and music off, and sit. Meditate if you can. If you have “monkey mind” and it just won’t quiet down no matter what, realize that they are just thoughts and you are just the witness of those thoughts, but still sit for your predetermined amount of time. When the time is up, get up and go about your business. No excuses, if you truly want to make it a habit you must commit to it and make it a priority.
