Consciousness is an epiphenomenon of neuroelectrochemistry. At least this is the view of many consciousness researchers and neurologists. And it is true that most every thought or emotion can be traced to a neurochemical charge and sequence.

Yes. – What is consciousness; ever thought about that? Is it being aware of your own existence, your “self “? If the cells of my body are being continually replaced, how then can I still be ” me ” and recognize who ” I ” am? Neurons route the energy that causes our body to function for the purpose of the ” self ” (the observer within, not of the material world) that through the will directs the body using the neuron hardware. Do neurons think? I don’t think so. To answer the first question.- consciousness is the enlightenment that… Read more »

The philosophers and neuroscientists who work on the problem of consciousness haven’t come to any consensus. But I feel that it is an oversimplification to say neurons alone are responsible for consciousness. (That does not mean I’m arguing for the immortal soul.) I suggest you look at the works of John Searle and Daniel Dennett if you are interested in this question.

All brain nerves are separated ,the neurons are what bridges the gap that gives us brain function and consciousnesses.

No concatenation of neurons can tell us anything about beauty or even can realize that the beautiful exists, and the reason is simple: An appreciation of beauty is a spiritual function. More properly, it is a function of a spirit. In the case of man, who is a spirit embodied and a body enspirited, it is the spiritual part that makes the difference. And not just with respect to beauty. The human mind we think of, falsely, in terms of what is inside the cranium, but the brain is only the instrument for the mind. Our mind really is an… Read more »

Where else does it come from. Are ants conscious? They must have something going on in their minds or they wouldn’t run away when you touch them.

Neurons are just the hardware. The software that is the mind is much different. Two identical computers that have different operating system act differently. The brain and mind are the same way.

Do you know that scientists have no idea what a ‘thought’ is? Think about that…

This is what Dawkins calls the “personal incredulity argument”.

“I cannot think of how this could happen naturally, so it must have happened supernaturally.”

The argument says more about the limitations of human imagination and introspection than it does about how the universe must be.

Not necessarily. Perhaps silicon in the future. Perhaps not elsewhere in the universe.
