Hello R&P 🙂 What Do You Think Of This Interesting Little Band?

My new favourite band of the moment! 23 Skidoo… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_Skidoo_(band)
I’ve never heard anything like them… it’s like a mixture of Industrial, Funk, Tribal, Dance music… i can’t get enough of them! The ‘Seven Songs’ and ‘Urban Gamelan’ albums are amazing!
and they’re apparently quite influential as well, having been sampled by Future Sound Of London and allegedly the Chemical Brothers (according to the wiki article anyway… see ‘Coup’ below 😉
here are some tunes… what do you think?
‘Kundalini’- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or-Us9UJJZs
‘IY’- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pez02B-_pLo
‘Coup’- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQADXqHKmEQ
‘The Gospel Comes To New Guinea’- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX-aUP05UPg&NR=1

  1. Hey! A band I’ve actually heard of (through you I believe in my bongo question, but no matter!) That’s certainly an interesting mix. And I love the Future Sound of London! Which song were they sampled on?
I have no sound at the moment, but I listened to the first two before and I think I liked “Kundalini” a little better. But I’ll definitely have to take another listen or two to be sure 🙂
Have a nice holiday, Migh! (I’m on holiday next weekend, can’t wait!!!)
edit– “Dead Cities” is definitely the album to get by FSOL, you can listen to the whole thing here (the first track is not the album version, but the rest is….that’s kinda strange, but you might wanna start with the 2nd track):

  2. Wow! I forgot all about 23 Skidoo. I used to have the 7 Songs mini album until i had all my vinyl stolen many moons ago. The radio dj John Peel used to champion them quite a lot which got me initially interested in them. Thank you for the reminder 🙂
    BQ: Kundalini
BQ2: I wouldn’t say they sound exactly like 23 Skidoo but they have the same vibe to me.
