Good Books About Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism???

I’m looking for some books that do an excellent job breaking down and explaining all three of these? Would somebody please give me some recommendations?

  1. For Buddhism go to http://www.buddhanet.net
There is a good brief introduction to Buddhism, and a wide selection of texts that will take you deeper.
For the others (and more Buddhism) go to http://www.sacred-texts.com
Specifically look at http://www.sacred-texts.com/cfu/index.htm and check out the last title on the page “Chinese Buddhism” by Joseph Edkins . The text is quite old (1893), but covers the main points clearly.
There are many simple guides available in book form, but you can down load the stuff I’ve mentioned for free.
A google search for each religion will net you many more links.
    http://www.taoism.net/
    http://www.crystalinks.com/confucianism.html
    http://www.beliefnet.com
    http://www.religioustolerance.org
    .

  2. I think the best thing for a beginner is the Oxford press series: “a very short introduction to…” The introduction to Buddhism is great. Explains different types of Buddhism, etc. There are probably editions on Taoism and Confucianism as well. Enjoy!

  3. Hey, they were all original authors!
The Tao Te Ching of Lao Tsu
The Teachings of the Compassionate Buddha
    The Analects of Confucius
