Ok so all people who see ghost are experiencing Sleep paralysis. i have experienced this only once.
Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes “after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false”. As the correlation with REM sleep suggests, the paralysis is not entirely complete; use of EOG traces shows that eye movement can be instigated during such episodes. When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP). “ISP appears to be far more common and recurrent among people of African descent than among whites or Nigerian Africans”, and is often referred to within African communities as “the Devil on your back.
In addition, the paralysis state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one’s normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters. A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox (the Blackmore-Cox study) of the University of the West of England supports the suggestion that reports of alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.
and also there is a phenomenon called Ball lighting. which occurs when their are thunder storms. It’s size can vary pea-sized to several meters in diameter. Ball lightening is supposed to last only a split second. Scientist can not explain why some ball lightnings last for a couple of seconds.
Given inconsistencies and the lack of reliable data, the true nature of ball lightning is still unknown. Until recently, ball lightning was often regarded as a fantasy or a hoax, but some serious scientific discussions and theories have evolved that attempt to explain it.
ball lighting fits in cuz some people think its a lost soul or an angel……
Paul have you experienced it WIDE AWAKE?
those people who say they were wide awake must of exaggerated.
Im sure if you go into any haunted house that isn’t commercialized you will SEE No ghost.

ok. so u are tryin to connect up sleep paralysis with ghosts. and where the ball lightning fits in i have no clue.
i have seen ball lightning before. it wasn’t instantaneous, but i don’t think it hung around for as long as 2 seconds.
i have never had sleep paralysis that i know of. so i can’t comment on it.

Sleep paralysis is all very well in certain circumstances – “I was asleep, then I woke up and my recently dead grandfather was there saying goodbye to me” (Story told to me by a friend), for instance. But it can’t explain when people are wide awake, can it?
In those instances, there must be something else at work. Be that ghostly apparitions, or some other mundane explanation, sleep paralysis doesn’t seem to cut it there.
Not that I believe in ghosts. I’m just pointing out the flaws in your theory as any scientist would, that we can go back and come up with a bigger, better theory.

Well I’ve never really heard the sleep paralysis theory but why not- its as plausible as any.
I’ve known one person who has seen a Ghost while delivering goods in his truck. He saw a man walk through a wall basically. The man himself, is sane, however he had a brother who committed suicide after getting into horrendous debt trying to finance a book he wrote. These are essentially symptoms of mania- a self confidence convincing oneself that you can achieve some unlikely task and a tendency to financially bankrupt yourself doing so. The man who witnessed the ghost, his brother, has never had an episode of mental illness but managed to spend his considerable inheritance within the space of a year on foolish enterprises…possibly a sign of mania. Its not unknown for hallucinations to occur in mania and I’m suggesting that this is probably the explanation of his ghost sighting and of many other people’s. Mania is very widespread and hidden in people- for example, the incredible borrowing of people that led to the credit crunch maybe be a sign of mass mania in otherwise seemingly normal people
