Because Buddha means “the enlightened one”, so you can’t be called something you’re not….yet

Buddha-hood implies enlightenment, before enlightenment, he doesn’t get the title yet. Like how a Ph. D. student can’t be called doctor before getting his degree.

He was just a normal person as long as he was prince, and so he had the name his parents named him.. Siddhartha.
He was named as Buddha by his followers. It means “The enlightened one”. And that was only after he attained enlightenment.

“Buddha” refers to someone who is fully awakened and liberated from Samsara. Gotama, prior to his enlightenment, didn’t fit the criteria.
He was referred to as the Bodhisatta (Bodhisattva in Sanskrit) before his enlightenment. This refers in the Theravada tradition to someone who will become a Sammasambuddha (fully enlightened Buddha) in their lifetime.
The Mahayana tradition of Buddhism has expanded the definition of a Bodhisattva beyond what it was initially used to mean in the Theravada tradition.

Buddha is a title meaning Illumined or Enlightened so you will never be called Buddha unless you have achieve the goal.
Just like Jesus, he was called the Christ officially by churches after he was declared and believed to be the Messiah (Chirst, Kristus, Anointed and Enlightened).
The Law Student is called attorney or lawyer only if he passes the bar and taken an oath to practice as a licensed lawyer.

because he wasn’t enlightened! that’s like calling someone king or queen before they’re been crowned.
