What is the oldest form of witchcraft?
I am uninterested in Wicca, I am wondering if anyone knows what the oldest form of witchcraft is as far as is known?
I guess Druids. That's a pretty old form of paganism, or witchcraft as you put it. Maybe something older but I don't know the name or time.
i am not sure but i think it was the druids
Unfortunately, that's an unanswerable question on a variety of levels.
First off, its only been very recently that people have been describing their own practices as "witchcraft." Historically, the term has been very negative.
Second, if you want to judge historical practices by the modern definition of witchcraft (rather than historical definitions of witchcraft), which definition do you use?
Third, if you think of witchcraft as simply being magic or folk magic, then its nearly impossible to define different "forms" of it. Folk magic by definition is fairly non-standardized not to mention poorly documented.
Finally, since magical beliefs in general have been around since the invention of writing, it stands to reason that it existed before the existence of writing as well. So magical practices predate the only means we have of knowing about them. People were probably working magic 10,000 years ago, but we have no idea about the specifics.
Nobody knows for sure, everyone thinks they have the correct answer or thinks their way is the best way but there is no known facts on that.
No one knows WHAT the oldes form of Witchcraft is. It is suspected that Witchcraft could go back as far as caveman days, but there is no physical evidence, as much of any evidence of witchcraft past the early days of the church was more than likely destroyed or hidden.
