"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong it's reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."

Dwight Eisenhower said it but, in a similarly clairvoyant but less embraced statement, warned about the growing power and leftist leanings of the Educational Elite.
Most people are familiar with his warning about so- called
Military Industrial complex but are less so, deliberately less so, about his warning about the " Blame America First socialistic policies fostered by those who teach our college students."

Don't know (and, of course, too lazy to look it up) but this was one of the general kinds of hand-wringing that was going on between 1880 and 1920.
There's never any lack of politicians to tell us that the end of the world is nigh and, if only we would elect THEM, then the natural order of things could be restored.
Funny how that saw never changes. Guess it works, huh?

Abraham Lincoln, 21 nov 1864 - that is why it is important to make interest groups and lobbyists and illegal activity in this country

That sounds like Woodrow Wilson.

That quote was uttered by the great master of the English language and our nation's greatest wartime president, Abraham Lincoln.
Prophetic, that statement - wasn't it?
He's spinning in his grave, the poor man. Between the Presidencies of the Bushes, the criminal shenanigans of Congress, and the jackals of K Street, Mr.. Lincoln would be apalled, shocked, and saddened.
