Astronomy is science, astrology is not.
Astronomy is the study of the physical aspects of the universe (planets, stars, etc.).
Astrology is the interpretation of the influence of planetary bodies on living beings in the universe.

Astral means relating to stars. Astrology is the study of constellations pertaining to zodiac signs. Such as Capricorn, Aquaris etc. Astronomy is the study of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, anything outside this world basically. Usually Astrology is connected with some kind of fortune telling, and was used long ago to predict the sex of unborn children, and things like that mostly made up. Astronomy is a much more scientific view and is definatly not made up.

Astral means coming from the stars or if referencing the astral plane, it is the spiritual level immediately above the physical
Astronomy is the study of things outside the earth's atmosphere
Astrology is the use of the study of the objects outside the earth's atmosphere for prediction. (both of the future and of the influences that these objects have on the subject of the prediction such as personality)

Astron means star (Greek), and astral is the English adjective derived.
Astrology (astro + logos) translates as "words about stars". It is the superstitious belief in mystical influences of the "wandering stars" (planets) and "fixed stars" (constellations).
Astronomy (astro + nomos) translates as "laws of stars". If is the science of mapping and evaluating the properties of celestial bodies.
Note: "logos" (word) is the root of the word logic; "nomos" (law) is the same root as in Deuteronomy.
