Well, Confucius & Laozi DID know one another.
Buddha knew one of Mahavira's disciples(though whether he knew Mahavira himself, I don't know).

They would discuss the potatoes.
Siddhartha: These potatoes will only be fully cooked until we boil them multiple times over in an effort to remove every possible speck of dirt. Then, they will be perfect.
Confucius: The potatoes will never be fully cooked. Boiling is an infinite process of potato cultivation, and those that say these potatoes are cooked do not know anything about cooking.
Laozi: In order to cook these potatoes, one must not boil them at all. For indeed, non-boiling is the most effective kind of boiling.
