Was this something real or was it what they call sleep paralysis?
Last night I woke up around 4 and couldn't go back to sleep again. I just layed in bed until around 5:30 until I finally got sleepy again but then something weird happened. I opened my eyes and in front of me there was a big black shadowy figure. I instantly knew there was something bad and I started to pray "Our Father" (I'm Orthodox and I thought there was something bad going on) and I had difficulty doing that but I eventually finished it and I remember I was telling that thing to go away. There was also a weird, ominous pulsing sound in my ears. When I wanted to make the cross sign at the end of the prayer I had such a hard time moving my hand, it was like I was paralyzed, but eventually with a lot of difficulty I did it and then I opened my eyes again and everything was ok.
Even now, I have no idea if that was a dream or not, I was really tired, so I don't know for sure if it was a dream or if I was awake and if it happened for real, but I checked on wikipedia about sleep paralysis and some of the symptoms are quite similar to what I had. The only thing that worries me is that it's not the first time I have problems like this. I usually live far away from home now, and I came home 2 days ago for Easter break and I remember since I was a kid I've been having all kinds of paranormal problems with this house. Feelings of unease, a lot of nightmares with a certain room, all kinds of noises, etc. And I've been having an encounter like this where I usually live as well. One night while I wanted to go to sleep there was a lot of movement in my room, some bags sounded like they were hit and I felt like a hand brushing the pillow near my head. Since then I find it hard to switch the lights.
I usually am really courageous to stuff like these but I always feel when something is serious and that kinda creeps me out a bit.
What's your opinion about it?
I agree that it may be sleep paralysis but considering the background of the house and the other events, it kinda raises question marks.
I usually don't have nightmares, almost never, because whenever I have one, I become lucid in my dream and I either stop it and wake up, or change it into a normal dream.
That is pretty freaky. Paranormal stuff can happen I'm sure. I've experienced one or two things too. I also know that your body doesn't always wake up all at once. I sometime wake up deaf and then all of a sudden sound kicks in.
Shadow people, jinn or whatever you want to call them, but they are serious, a force on the chest, pressure holding you down, feeling suffocated, trying to scream for help and can`t etc, yep it is them. Cold spots and cold spots on body, strange smells , strangling on neck and pushing? Bad bad energy that is attacking you for whatever reason, only god knows and only god permits this for a reason, just pray and ask god to show what you need to see without blindness and to hear without prejudice and guide you, and do not fear them as this is what they feed off NEGATIVITY OF ANY KIND, THOUGHTS, WORDS ACTIONS ETC ETC BE CAREFUL AND CONTINUE TO REFLECT AND CHANGE, blessings
sounds like sleep paralysis maybe a hypnapompic hallucination (hypnagogia)
btw the other stuff sounds like you may be suffering from a mild sleep disorder of some kind or maybe an anxiety problem might be worth getting checked out.
To me it sound like sleep paralysis, but just to make sure do a background check on the house it might b something else.
Last time I expeeinced sleep paraylsis it was an angel causing it, he was sitting in my window. So I knew it was okay. If I were you try reading on dreams and shamanism then you can learn to focus and change your dreams for the positive.
The same thing happened to me. I think that we will never know the truth but all I can say is that it all depends on what is going on in your life and @ that moment that you had the experience. When it happened to me I had been introduced to Jesus and had been in a retreat so in a way it was like someone was fighting for me or my soul i guess....or as science puts it...a dream paralysis which is ok. Anyway, don't let that stop you or take away your time or sleep just try to do good and get sleep!
I am an Orthodox Christian and a student of theology. I am not qualified to give you an absolute answer. However, there are demonic phenomena known to the Church that are similar to what you describe.
You need to find an Eastern Orthodox priest and discuss this matter with him. In the unlikely event that the priest is unreceptive, go to another. Besides giving you counsel, there are prayers of exorcism a priest can read over you. (Don’t worry – it’s not some big production.) It would also be good for the priest to bless your family home and for you to have your dorm-room (or whatever) blessed as well. We even have a blessing for cars!
Above all, though, you must make an effort to draw nearer to Christ. Attend Confession and, with the blessing of the priest, receive Holy Communion. Continue to receive Communion, and make Confession regularly, especially when something weighs heavy on your conscience.
Remember Saint Paul’s words: “I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8).
If we live in Christ –Â if we live the Christian faith – we have no need to fear demons! Christ is greater than any distractions, horror-movie special effects, or even violence that they can throw at us. There is only one force that can damage my relationship with Christ: me!
Praying is the best thing you can do when you think you might be under a demonic assault. Making the sign of the Cross is also a powerful defense: St. Anthony the Great tells us that the demons “are cowards and greatly fear the sign of the Lord's Cross” (35).
The name of the incarnate Lord is another powerful spiritual weapon. So, consider also saying the Jesus Prayer in times of difficulty: “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” We can repeat the prayer – much like the blind man in Mark 10:46 – though we do have to avoid using it like “magic words” or a mantra. In other words, each time we say the Jesus Prayer, we should be actually and consciously praying to Jesus Christ.
I do not know, nor could I evaluate, your circumstances or those of others who might read this. It is important, then, that I also mention mental illness. The existence of mental illness – of disorders of the mind that should be tended to by physicians – has been recognized by the Orthodox Church since ancient times. In particular, we know that psychotic symptoms can mimic certain demonic phenomena (and the two can even be present at the same time). Questions in this regard should be addressed by an experienced pastor, who will typically ask the assistance of a faithful mental health professional.
May our loving God strengthen and save you!
i truly think that it did happen. i am a believer in paranormal life and i see paranormal things, but never anything like that. i believe you saw a demon. you said that in some particular room, things like that happen to you, right? i personally think that room is haunted....i dont think it was sleep paralysis.
