This is for all Witches and Pagans. Is it just me, or is anyone else geting tired of all this new age stuff...?
I know I personally am getting so very tired of all this new age stuff when I know that this isn't the way things were done hundreds of years ago. I say this because someone actually allowed me to take a quick glimpse into a book of shadows hundreds of years old. It was real hardcore paganism. I wish I could remember it but I can't. Any other opinions or thoughts?
Paganism is older than christianity, actually.
and I'm sick of both of them!
Books of Shadows hundreds of years old are hogwash. Witches and pagans back then were mostly illiterate, didn't keep spell books, and probably couldn't afford the paper.
I don't know exactly what "new age stuff" you are referring to, but there are many reasons why our practices today aren't exactly like they were hundreds of years ago. Our cultures, societies, educations, surroundings and our lives in general have changed drastically over the past hundreds and thousands of years. To not adapt our practices would be near impossible. No matter how we may try to keep certain practices the same, some things have to change to adapt to how our lives are now.
"Hundreds of years old" Wicca should make a little region of your brain responsible for suspicion fire up - for roughly the same reason it should if I try to present you what I claim is a prehistoric Lady Gaga album.
There are people alive today older than modern "witchcraft" and "paganism" - the only claim to age they might have is a piecemeal, vague attempt to mimic what little we know about small, ancient dead religions.
A hundred years from now, all kinds of people will be saying the same about you and the answer everyone has given. The getting tired, is the resistance to the open mind of change, its a muscle not many like to use and therefore fatigue. Take a breath and the try again just for the knowledge of it. No one says you have to conform to it. Its your choice. But Knowledge and experience are the riches of the afterlife. Its all you take with you.
A book of shadows is just a journal, kept by an individual, of their beliefs and activities related to those beliefs. Everyone's book of shadows is different, just like everyone's journal is different. If someone has one that's hundreds of years old, it may have been written by their great grandmother or something.
We don't ridicule your grandma's journal...
I grew up in our culture with Christianity. And I'm tired of hearing all the snootiness and self righteousness of people like you.
I do dislike the "anything goes" attitude of some
new age type groups, which tends to place all
sorts of ridiculous ideas on an equal footing with
solid traditional concepts.
That being said, there are many ways to access
divinity, and metaphysics isn't an exact science.
We must consider all options with an open mind,
until such time as we can clearly discount them.
