Ghost Question: Sleep paralysis and whispering in my ear?

Over the past year, my mother died (which she wasn't ready to do) from dementa at only 65 yrs old, and my best friend since pre-k also killed himself cuz he also lost a parent and was depressed.
This has happened lots of times over the past several months - I would be asleep, my mind would wake up but my body can't move and all I hear is like someone trying to whisper something to me but I can't make it out.
The most recent incident happened two nights ago. I was alone, my girl was at work, nobody else was in the house. 6-7am in the morning, I was sleeping on my right side, my mind woke up but my eyes were still shut and I couldn't move, and somebody kept trying to whisper/tell me something. After a moment, I eventually broke out of the paralysis and woke up. I never saw anything.
Do you think my best friend or my mom is trying to tell me something?
I find it totally bizarre how I posted this question in the Religion & Spirituality section but yet everyone who replies to this has an answer that contradicts religion and spirituality, stating there's no such thing. Now, are there any people here who are not atheists or anything of that sort who have an answer to this?
If you believe in God/Religion/Spirituality, then you believe in ghosts too. Sorry, but they are part of that whole ordeal. And I know for a fact that there was someone whispering in my ear, I know what is and isn't a whisper, it was not my ears playing tricks on me, that's the dumbest excuse I've ever heard.

I don't know whether you will be sorry or relieved, but you're right, this is "just" sleep paralysis, which can also be accompanied by waking dreams. If it bothers you, there are sleep medications that might help.

No, but if you're thinking about them a lot, you'll be more likely to dream about them.

This is an A typical sign of sleep paralysis, and even the audi disturbances coincide with this condition.
Your not crazy, nor are you having visits from the grave, but maybe a talk with your doctor might help.
Try not to stress too much, I've been there, and I know what it's like. It's easily dealt with, and maybe a small sleeping tablet will settle your nerves.

Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes "after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false".[5] As the correlation with REM sleep suggests, the paralysis is not entirely complete; use of EOG traces shows that eye movement can be instigated during such episodes.[6] When there is an absence of narcolepsy, sleep paralysis is referred to as isolated sleep paralysis (ISP).[7] "ISP appears to be far more common and recurrent among people of African descent than among whites or Nigerian Africans",[5] and is often referred to within African communities as "the Devil on your back."[8][9][10]
In addition, the paralysis state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[11] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual because of the vividness of such hallucinations.[7] The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Some scientists have proposed this condition as an explanation for alien abductions and ghostly encounters.[12] A study by Susan Blackmore and Marcus Cox (the Blackmore-Cox study) of the University of the West of England supports the suggestion that reports of alien abductions are related to sleep paralysis rather than to temporal lobe lability.

Occultism & Parapsychology Encyclopedia: Succubus
A demon who takes the shape of a woman, stealing the vitality of men during sleep. Old rabbinical writings relate the legend of how Adam was visited over a period of 130 years by female demons and had intercourse with demons, spirits, specters, lemurs, and phantoms.

What you are experiencing happens to many persons, but you seem to be having this very often. I suggest that you see your doctor and perhaps get some medication that can help you relax and sleep restfully. Stop thinking that your mother or your friend are trying to contact you, that does not happen.

I am sorry that your Mum has died and also your best friend. You will be grieving for them.
I too have had the experience of waking up and being unable to move. It is sleep paralysis and happens when the body wakes up at different stages. If the mind becomes awake first we can feel we are paralyzed as the body is still asleep. It can be a frightening experience.
Maybe the whispering you hear is not words or anyone trying to contact you, but your ears becoming awake too and adjusting to the sounds around you or even to the sound of your breathing.
It is a common occurrence and some medication is available to help.
However when you are feeling less anxious it does pass off
Edit: I too had the experience of hearing something. We do have to be careful not to put everything unusual to a religious experience. We are after all body, mind and soul. Yes, some things can be due to a spiritual cause but even though we may be religious we have to be open to all causes.
If you still feel it may be your Mum or your best friend trying to make contact, this may be wishful thinking.
I too would like my Mum to contact me but I have let her go to God.
I pray for her that she may rest in peace. Perhaps you could say a prayer for your Mum and friend? If not, I will do so for them.
God bless

The Bible says that the dead know nothing and the believer, absent from the body present in the spirit. I had a similar incident happen to me long ago. I was sleeping and I woke and saw this thing that looked like a hairy 2 legged muscular beast searching the pockets of my pants. I tried to get up and I couldn't move and lay there shaking in fear watching the beast who looked as though it was desparation, I could see what time it was and everything else it seemed so real. I told my shrink and he had a name for it that has escaped my memory but it had to have been strange way to dream. Once I went to sleep and found myself floating over a familiar intersection on a cool night when I returned to my body it was as though I gently swayed side to side until I settled in. When I woke my arms were freezing.

Shame on all of you who recommend sleeping pills! The body will then rely on them to sleep, its addicting! He's not having sleep paralysis, he's having a visit from some unseen source of energy that is out there. Unlikely that it is anyone he knows as a loving spirit would not hold the body down in restraint. When your mind is alert and your body is unable to move, use telepathy and call out in your own mind "WHITE LIGHT".
This automatically counteracts any hold on the body. All of the sudden your eyes can open and your body can move. Amazing stuff.

I also had the feeling when someone was whispering to you and you don't know what they're saying... What you only know is that they're whispering. But when I heard the whispers I immediately shouted and my mom was there for me.

These are demonic attacks people. I just had an experience and it was not human. Tread very carefully and sleep next to a Bible. I took it as a threat since it was whispering my girlfriend's name I think.

Aaron, you are right. If you have a relationship with Christ, call on God. It is by His spirit not our might that we defeat demons. Stand in full authority as a child of God. Speak boldly telling the demon it is not welcome in your house, to depart and not return, in Christ's name.

Sleep paralysis was so scary the feeling of being pushed down and sinking down on the mattress, I actually tried to fight it off trying to turn on the fan and while I was doing someone whispered to me "twenty one...twenty one...twenty one" before I turned the fan on. When I got the fan going its as if something cleared up the pressure of being pushed down was gone like a fog disappearing kind of feeling it happened when I was 19 now I'm 21 I feel so unsettling...

Peace Everybody, my name is Eddy & I have experienced similar things multiple times since I was about 17 yrs old. The one incident that stands out to me the most is when I was resting one night & a whisperer malevolently whispered into my ear but in a unique language or dialect which I still to this day can not make out. I also wrestled with the whisperer which caused me to awake from my rest do to my hand & arm movements. Now I am a fairly well studied individual (non-religious) in the subjects of religious doctrine & ancient practices as well as ancient history & symbolism... However, in my study of ancient languages I have heard people attempt to speak afro-asiatic languages such as cuneiform, sanskrit etc. These hieroglyphics can be translated but they have no rhythmic tones or spoken expressions that are known to man. I know what latin sounds like & the aramaic languages... I wanna know if this was a forbidden language or some type of lost dialect or tongue that was spoken long ago. And, And, What was this entity... Was it the djinn spoken of in numerous ancient texts & the quran or evil spirits spoken of in the bible? Or was it of some extraterrestrial dimension?

Personally I am non religious for many reasons, however, I think that the only way to unvail these types of occurrences is to use our religious doctrines & ancient texts as a study guide to get to the origins of these events. I don't think however, that religious belief is primarily the influence of such instances either. On another note, since I come from a religious upbringing I will say that wherever your religious faith is (if u stand strong in it) do not fear the presence of such phenomenon. U ward off things (even) people when u show no fear... But simply, communicate with the force, whether it be you warding it off or seeking to understand it's purpose. The key is to not fear it.

I do not think you are delusional I too have had this experience and heard whispering in my ear but could not make it out... I do take a religious stand on this as there is a battle for each of us ... but I also believe that in a state of depression or sadness we are actually more vulnerable to these attacks from entities or demons what ever you may call them.

It's sleep paralysis. Your brain is paralyzing your body so you don't act out your dreams and get hurt. Your mind wakes up before your body can move. This causes you to be awake in the middle of dreams which makes you hallucinate. It has nothing to do with spirits or demons or any other nonsense. I experience this too. I just closed my eyes 20 minutes ago and heard my name whispered multiple times, which turned into shouting in a deep voice. My boyfriend is sleeping next to me and it's quiet. There's nothing here. It's just my brain being stupid again.

In my dream i was trying to escape a robbery that i had just committed and i was walking through an underground when all of a sudden a loud deep voice whispered into my ear (RALALA) and in my dream i fell to the ground and woke up and couldnt move for a few seconds. IM SCARED TO SLEEP NOW! Ralala is something i said the other day for no reason while i was takin a piss._. I think its a demon taunting me. Well goodnight!

It may be sleep paralysis or it may be demonic. I have had two separate friends recently be dragged out of bed - that's not sleep paralyisis! I have had all kinds of experiences along with apparations - too many, I do not seek them. The Bible says there is no contact between the living and the dead. Such things are demonic spirits, who yes can appear as "angels of light" and take the form of people with the sole purpose of deceiving them. I do not fear any of this. I am a Christian minister, and the more I am used by God the more these things try to happen. After saying the Lord's prayer they always stop and disappear. My advice is do not get intrigued or interested in these things and call our to Jesus when they happen (The Lord's prayer is very effective.). On the back of this though see that there is a reality here that you need to take seriously. God is real, Satan is real. Satan has authority in our lives because of our sin but Jesus died on a cross that so we can be forgiven. Call our to Him for forgiveness and follow him, and find a good Bible believing mainstream church.
