For those who READ "The Prince" by Machiavelli and Lao-Tzu's "Thoughts of the Tao-te Ching"
Has anyone read either of those? If so, can someone help explain to me how these thoughts parallel with US government today, WOULD they work, have they ever been used? Thanks
Hitler loved the prince he kept it under his pillow
A purely Machiavellin U.S. govt.=NO! that is a huge statement .Look for pardons granted to individuals for an example of Machiavellin actions.Or light sentences.
The alternative title for "The Prince" should be "How to rule a country, attack another and keep people under your thumb".
On a serious note, Machiavelli is suggesting a fool-proof method of gaining and retaining control over any domain that you oversee, as well as managing the people within. One either lavish gifts upon them (gifts that are stolen from the native country anyway) or they threaten them into silence.
If you're critical of the US policies, I'm sure you won't have problems drawing the analogy. Here's a hint. Dictatorship.
I have beeing looking the Web for this information and just wanted to thank you for the post. By the way, just off topic, where can i find a copy of this theme? — Thanks
