I want to know which animal has the Largest Pineal Gland. It can be in relation to the size of the Brain of the Host or Simply by Sheer Mass. Both versions of the answer will suffice.
It looks like it's humans at 8 mm.
Excerpt:
The pineal body / gland is absent in crocodiles and in mammals of the order Edentata (anteaters, sloths, armadillos) and consists of only a few cells in whales and elephants. In humans the structure develops until the seventh year, when it is slightly larger than a pea (8 mm in humans); thereafter, throughout life, small mineral particles, particularly calcium, may be deposited in the pineal body. The mineral deposits can sometimes be seen in brain X-rays.
Named after a French psychologist, Philippe Pinel, who first described the gland in the human brain, it is only slowly beginning to be understood in its functions.

The pineal gland is a small organ shaped like a pine cone (hence its name). It is located on the midline, attached to the posterior end of the roof of the third ventricle in the brain. The pineal varies in size among species; in humans it is roughly 1 cm in length, whereas in dogs it is only about 1 mm long.

Hope This Helps ... Good Luck
In vertebrates, relative to body size, it might be a species of bat.
(the New Guinean naked-backed bat)
I believe either the Elephant or a Cetacean (Whale or Dolphin etc) Both which interesting enough have advanced skills in communication. I read about this in John Lillys book "the Scientist.". I would have to verify this, since he was sort of a mad scientist, but VERY interesting!
UM I think that the PINEAL gland was named after the guy that discovered it... not because it looks like a pine cone. The source of that info was not very good... I think it was just written by some random student. Nothing is sited... and come on... Phillipe Pinel? Encarta is more right than ... that uncited page.
Actually, according to new age occult teachings, the pineal gland IS represented by a Pine Cone. The vatican has many within their walls. The vatican is a major occult epicenter too. How about you do your own research for a change!?
Cats have the most neurological connections to their pineal gland... I always thought it was weird that the Egyptians treated them so highly and even had them mummified...
Ever thought about the rest of the brain near the Tabernacle/ Jerusalem/holy place ( pineal gland) ? Like the fornix (the arch/Noah's arc ) where the fluid (activation) floods the area from the four rivers ?? to open the third eye/enlightenment. Which is pitched under and over and represents the Bull the Ram and the Goat ? It goes on and on and on..... Like how about King Solomons Temple ? scaled down is the structure of your brain, the Pineal Gland being the Tabinacle or some cases called the Devil. Yes, the Bible is not what the average man thinks it is ??
You stated that it’s named after a man named pineal and then you say it’s named because it looks like a pine cone. Which is it??
It's the pine cone similarity not the person....the sumerions reference the pine cone, it's also present on the popes staff with Christ on the cross.... It's pictured ankor wot too as well as other nudisthindu sites .... Very strange
