Seeing as so many people believe it - there must be some reason besides the obvious use as conversation starters and ice breakers. I'd like to learn more and become less ignorant, but at this moment I find no reason to even begin searching for answers because I find no reason to believe - is there any experience or article or series of facts that might give me a second wind?
No
No.
Isn't that the study of the stars?
No it's just another con.
"Space travel and navigating the oceans."
It's a good thing to know if you're a farmer:
Genesis1:14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
It's all hooey. There's no rational or evidential reasons to believe it. The reason people believe it works? The same reason they believe prayer works - confirmation bias.
"Seeing as so many people believe it..."
Many people believe there is a god too. And they're all wrong.
No, there is NO reason to believe in astrology, just as there are no reasons to believe in god(s).
For the most part, no. Most of it is just a form of entertainment...and like entertainment, it's a business. However, I have had my chart done before based on the date, time, location, time-zone of my birth and it actually hit the nail right on the head. I don't know if it was just a lucky chance or if there really is something to it, but it was definitely strange,
Evidence? No.
Proof that it's real? No, but the 'readings' from the stars are intentionally vague so that they are able to apply to anyone. When someone gets the reading for their sign it will be applicable to them in some way, due to it's vagueness. You could read the wrong sign and it would still apply to you.
Reasons? The desire to know the future. The desire to have greater control over your life. The desire to know when opportunities are coming so that you don't pass them by. The hope that things will get better (positive readings).
Ultimately it comes down to being a form of comfort. It allows the person to think they have some control over the events in their life, by "knowing" what will happen, what to watch out for, or who to look for (compatability of signs).
It's unfortunate that some people believe in it as deeply as they do. I constantly see questions from the Horoscope category asking if a relationship between X sign and Y sign can possibly work out. These people would be bypassing individuals who are potential matches for them, simply because of superstitions over the month the person was born in.
No it's just pseudoscience.
it is for a some or one particular person, they just happen to see Stalk the life of one man, capricorn, etc.
But its not for everybody. I dont know how they Stalk a one generally person of particular month or astrology.
Astrology is the forerunner of Astronomy and it should therefore be respected as an old-tool. I don't like to abandon old tools but sometimes they outlive their usefulness.
