For everything begins with consciousness and nothing is worth anything except through it?

This quote is by Albert Camus. I’ve read it over and over but I still cannot understand the full meaning of the quote. Help is appreciated.

  1. well if it begins with consciousness then it means you begin with understanding it. or waking up. and if you don’t understand it, its not until you realize what it means, that you can appreciate it.
kind of like a blind person can’t understand colors until they can see so colors mean nothing to them while they are blind.
    i think.

  2. This is connected with the ‘if the tree falls and there is no one to hear it’ puzzle.
Everything exists firstly because there is something aware of it. If nothing is, absolutely, aware of something than it does not exist. Consciousness sets a limit on the universe. That is rule # 1
Can you say unequivocally: that something exists, when absolutely nothing can be, or ever has or ever will be aware of that thing?
No, you cannot, nor can anyone else say that that thing exists. Therefore it does not, UNTIL something is aware of it. Therefore consciousness is the ‘beginning’ of the existence of everything.
