First ionization energies of neutral atoms may be postive or negative?

True or false? If it is false, why?

  1. False.
Ionization is the energy required to remove an electron from an atom. So, if you remove an electron (which has a negative charge) from a neutral atom with equal charge, it will always create a positive ion with positive energy.

  2. False. Ionization energies whether it is first, second, third is always positive(endothermic) as you need energy to extract an electron from the neutral atom.
