Extreme intuitive empathy and communicating with deceased… or schizophrenia/bipolar?

For many years I have had experiences with paranormal activity from time to time. This could be anything from benign “shadow” people out of the corner of my eye to actual experiences by myself and another person concurrently. For example, one of my rental homes had what I call “paranormal” activity occurring… I lived there with my boyfriend, and we would BOTH experience the knocking on the wall, glasses spontaneously breaking in another room, and electrical disturbances. While this was happening, I felt like there was an oppressive energy in the house and I almost developed a phobic response to being there alone. My two dogs also barked at what seemed to be nothing.
Within the last year, I have had what you could call a “spiritual awakening”. I suddenly had an understanding of what my belief system was and it was as if someone “downloaded” everything all at once. I do believe in God, and I see that all religions are absolutely connected with the core beliefs but have been grossly misinterpreted by many folks. While this is enjoyable and very humbling, I have also had my first “intuitive empathy” experience. Essentially, I am able to empathize with people whom I don’t know (or I do know), without knowing their circumstances. It is as if I pick up on their energy and feel it on my own, as if I was actually experiencing it as a result of something in my life. While this is intriguing, I have to err on the side of caution and also consider mental ramifications should this be a psychosis. I am having a more difficult time dealing with the negative energy I seem to absorb, and it has effected my mood when I am around my significant other. Unfortunately, he doesn’t believe me and I sense though he seems supportive, he is concerned this is a marker of an illness (such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder, bipolar disorder, etc.)
I’ve now told him I will stop actively trying to research this “ability” – which seemed to amplify it. I am hoping this will reduce any effects I’ve had. But I do have to admit despite the coincidental instances I’ve been correct in information from “the other side” or my intuitive ability to feel pain or understand if someone is going through something… I am afraid perhaps these are delusions. Thoughts?

  1. Heyy! OMG…this is a major thing! You should feel so blessed that you have this gift! And that is exactly what it is – a gift. You are probably psychic, or clairvoyant, because of all the stuff you have described. You can use your gift for positive means, like helping people to connect with, and contact members of their family who have passed on. This is amazing! I would give anything to have this gift! 😀 xx

  2. There are many people who are not mentally ill who have abilities such as these. Your boyfriend shouldn’t so quickly forget that he was an eye witness to the paranormal. He shouldn’t dismiss the fact that there does exist a spiritual realm that sometimes comes into contact with the physical. You should sit down and have a talk with him about it and make sure that he understands that this is not a case for psychiatric treatment. You shouldn’t give up on developing your abilities just because of him. Boyfriends come and go, but you only have one you so make the most and the best of it. Pursue your abilities to the fullest because that’s why you’re spiritually more mature than the average person in the first place because it belongs to you to live the life of a mystic. If your boyfriend doesn’t like it then maybe you should find someone who loves you for who you are and not try to put you in a box filed under mental patient.
