Do you think that without the spiritual awakening in 1790 there would still be slavery?

Because without the spiritual awakening that swept the whole nation there wouldn’t be that belief that inspired the reforms to abolish slavery. Don’t you think?
Just so people know I got this from my U.S. History book. So this is the conclusion I came out with…

  1. I believe The Industrial Revolution would’ve ended slavery. Once machines could perform the work of a man much faster and for longer periods of time, then slaves would’ve been useless.

  2. Yes, I think there was still slavery until the legendary atheist Abraham Lincoln kicked the shit out of the Bible Belt, bent their railroads into pretzels, and told them that not even the Bible quotes they’d been using could justify slavery.
    Fear Lincoln!

  3. There was no spiritual awakening, that time in history was christian dominated. I find it appaling that people still think christianity is a spiritual religion, and the “spritual awakening” of 1790 was nothing more than fundie christians trying to make themselves look good.

  4. There is not one verse in the Bible that prohibits slavery. So, what “spiritual awakening” took place?

  5. I believe that sooner or later it had to happen. To bad it wasn’t sooner. Human beings don’t like to see other human beings suffer. Well, maybe a sick few. The bible believes in slavery. Ephesians 6-5 and on. It tells the slaves to fear their masters and to work with enthusiasm.

  6. slavery was abolished in a purely political move.
lincoln and the north understood that the profits from slavery were funding the southern war effort.
once slavery was abolished, there was no cash to support the rebels.
without money the rebels lost, lincoln went down in history as the man who saved the nation and single handedly freed the slaves, and uncle sam got it’s fingers into the agricultural pie.

  7. No
Slavery was unpopular in much of the country (especially New England)before the 1790 Spiritual Awakening
John Adams was anti-slavery his for pretty much his whole life
    Try studying some history
your US history book is incorrect, it was apparently written and published by someone who is more interested in an agenda than actual history

  8. That is really some outlandish foolishness. The bible is the book of christianity and it upholds slavery. Slavery was talked about in church during those times that you mentioned and slave owners were also christians, any of them. Yes, they went to church and cleaned away their sins then returned to the plantations and beat the skin off of 4 or 5 of their slaves because they had a thought that god told them to beat them. Christianity still upholds slavery, and that is one of the reason for inventing christianity.

  9. Cleaning up always takes time…
If your kitchen is messy, you cannot clean it INSTANTLY…
People have to be given time to learn the truth….
    That’s why Jesus was SENT…
    And we are still learning….
but this will not continue forever….there is a cut off point…which only God knows.
(Matthew 24:36-40) “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. 37Â For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38Â For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; 39Â and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 40Â Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned.
If we prove to God, by obedience , that we deserve to be ‘saved’ , not destroyed, we can live on.
(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.
(Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].
