  • There is an entire religion based upon AP, Eckankar! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eckankar ~From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eckankar is a new religious movement that focuses on spiritual exercises enabling practitioners to experience what its followers call “the Light and Sound of God.” The personal experience of this spiritual Light and Sound is a primary goal of the teaching. It claims to provide a personal, unique and individual spiritual inner path to understanding of self as soul, and development of higher awareness “consciousness” and God.

According to the Eckankar glossary, the term Eckankar means “Co-Worker with God”.[1] It is likely drawn from the Sikh term, Ik Onkar. Since 1985 followers of Eckankar have described it as “The Religion of the Light and Sound of God”. Prior to 1985, Eckankar was known as “The Ancient Science of Soul Travel”.

Eckankar’s headquarters are in Chanhassen, Minnesota (southwest of Minneapolis). The Eckankar Temple, an outdoor chapel, an administrative building, and the ECK Spiritual Campus are located at this site.

  • Of course, though you specifically asked people to avoid dismissing it, you got several replies from people doing just that.

I have experienced astral projection personally, so I have little choice but to believe it is real. I have even watched things happen in the astral plane that I couldn’t have known about, returned to my body, and received confirmation of the truth in my experience.

You will lose nothing in the process, except perhaps the respect of those who don’t believe in it. But that is to be expected with anything at all, right? If you believe in God, the atheists have a deep distrust for you until they’ve had good experiences with you. If you believe in magic, the Wiccans and such will love you, but the Christians will either avoid you or try to “save you from Satan” (ignore that. They don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Making beer would have branded you a witch just a few hundred years ago). Personally, I would rather be able to use astral projection and have only a few friends who don’t care than ditch astral projection and have a lot of friends who will shove me away at the slightest sign of nonconformity. Why would I want friends who only like me if I am just like them?

If you want to study up on astral projection and learn some techniques for mastering it, I would suggest Bruce & Mercer’s “Mastering Astral Projection: 90-Day Guide To Out-Of-Body Experience”, a book I found in Borders. You can also just Google it, as most websites on astral projection have pretty much the same ideas, though in much less detail.

EDIT: By the way, you will NOT lose your soul from doing this. Also, Satan has nothing whatsoever to do with astral projection, and finding your way back to your body is as simple as wanting to be there. You just sort of “pull” with your mind, like forcing your eyes open, and you will find yourself back in your body. This is because you are always connected to your body by what many call the “astral cord,” kinda like using a spool of thread to mark where you’ve been in a forest and find your way back.

  • i absolutely believe it’s real.
and i believe it is extremely dangerous especially from a mental health perspective.
once there is a break with what is commonly associate with reality the mind will become confused.
there are masters of meditation who can travel mentally thru space and time,to different worlds and also the past and future, but they have true insight and have established very strong strength of mind so that they won’t be deceived.

  • Yes! very real! I’ve been dabbling in this subject myself lately. I thought at first that nothing would happen but when doing the meditation prior to projecting, my heart uncontrollably sped up, my breathing became odd, I felt all tingly and light headed. These are things that happen prior to projecting, but at the time I didn’t know so I became afraid and stopped. Im trying to get out of my body, but its not that easy. You should try it, you might be suprised. Little do most people know we astral project uncontrollably everytime we dream. In astral projection, you learn to conciously put yourself into this dream state and make the body fall asleep but keep the mind awake.

What do you lose? I cant really think of anything you’ll lose. If you’re succesful you’ll gain higher knowledge of your conciousness and the power of your mind, time travel, living your dreams.

You should really read up on this subject and try it

Also it would be ignorant to dismiss something as not real that you have never had experience with 🙂

  • I have time and self-respect to lose trying it.

If I assumed every unsubstantiated claim was a real phenomenon I’d have to be locked up in a padded cell. As soon as there’s evidence that a mind can exist without a physical brain then I’ll re-examine astral projection claims. In the mean time, why don’t you go wait in the woods for time-travelling Sasquatch leprechauns from Atlantis. What do you have to lose?

  • If you’re getting a different experience not described in the Bible, chances are it’s just your imagination caused by anxiety or stress in your life, or other spirits (i.e. demons) playing tricks on you, making you see what they want you to see.

Don’t take too much stock in astral projection and other spirits. God is very clear in the Bible of not “seeking familiar spirits” I Samuel 28:3-20.

  • I’d really like it to be true (seriously), but sadly I just don’t buy it and it seems like a long time to spend learning something that probably won’t work.
