Do writing daily affirmations really propel you toward your goals?

I read in some self help books that you make your mind what you want to achieve till your next birthday. And then scribble them daily on a chit and burn it.
Religiously fallow this ritual daily and this task alone will propel your subconscious brain towards your goals. It has sub-minimal effect. HOWEVER DIFFICULT the goals may seem. If it is possible you can achieve it.
But i have some skeptical doubts. As it may well be a waste of time.
will a person’s subconscious mind will propel his consciousness towards his goals?

  1. I’ve never found that necessary, my personal technique is to define the goal, work out a plan, and make a checklist of the steps I need to accomplish it. As each step is checked off I have positive reinforcement that my goal is coming closer. As an example, three years ago I set the goal of getting out of debt, each month as I work out my budget I can see them going down. The daily affirmation ritual you decide wouldn’t make any difference to the process, but looking at my nearly completed checklist works great since I always have visual confirmation of progress and approaching success.
