Do people who want to be psychiatrists have to go to traditional medical school? ?

What i mean is like i mean cutting up cadavers and doing stuff like that. It would be REALLY fantastic if people who are psychiatrists answer. But if you have information and aren’t a psychiatrist it would also be much appreciated. Thank you!

  1. Medical schools do not care what your ultimate specialty may be, as the sole goal of all medical schools is to educate physicians to the same basic core competencies. Once you meet those core competencies and are awarded your MD, you then choose a specialty of interest and learn how to treat and manage people with those conditions/disorders. So pediatricians, surgeons, cardiologists and psychiatrists all receive the same education in medical school.

  2. Yes, you have to go to medical school and then complete a pschiatry residency to become a psychiatrist. Now if you want to become a psychologist, then you don’t have to go to medical school but then you cannot prescribe psych meds.
