  1. Citrine, variety of the mineral quartz (SiO2) with large, yellow crystals. Citrine is sometimes used as a semiprecious stone in jewelry. It resembles the mineral topaz in color and is commonly sold under the name quartz topaz. It has a hardness of 7 and a specific gravity, or relative density, of 2.65.
    Citrine is found in Spain, France, Scotland, Russia, and Brazil.It is sometimes commercially produced by heating amethyst, another variety of quartz, to about 450° C (840° F).
