Can we convince the media to “elevate” themselves to higher plain of consciousness?

I stopped watching television about 8 months ago completely…

I get all my news from online sources that I trust and I occassionally give my opinions on Yahoo and some other forums…

MANY people are making the switch to internet-based media… but the old TV companies are now trying to buy up the internet as well.

What can we do to show the Networks that they are out of control and have lost touch with what Americans are REALLY interested in?

Sure – they have some folks who are still easily entertained by whatever talking heads you put in front of them… but those numbers are getting fewer.

What are some of your “new news” sources?

  • If enough of us quite watching TV and buying products that fund it, then MAYBE they might see the light, but the media is what controls what everyone sees and hears. They put us in both the good and bad light because they want to manipulate the thoughts of others. Too bad too. I turned the TV off in 2005. We saw some when we were in Minneapolis and decided we made the right choice. Did you know they don’t want talk shows on the radio because the talk shows aren’t under their control? Interesting isn’t it.

  • I like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert if only because they present current events with humor, albeit dark humor. Unfortunately, all media including their shows are owned, operated, highly censored and tightly controlled by multinational mega corporations, most notably the oil and weapons industries. Even N.P.R. and P.B.S. are severely restricted in what they cover and how they cover it. That’s why all news coverage is pretty much the same, why you can flip through 100 channels and see the same brand of nothing and why we never hear of the oil industry’s part in creating the starvation, poverty, disease and genocides around the world. If we could ever get around to setting global limits on wealth and poverty, we might see a change in the media as well. Suggested reading: Common Wealth, by Jeffrey Sachs. It really doesn’t have much to do with your question or the media. Just a rough blueprint for a saner world.

  • IT WOULD BE VERY NICE IF THEY WOULD ALL REPORT THE TRUTH AND THE WHOLE TRUTH INSTEAD OF JUST REPORTING WHAT SUITS THEIR AGENDA

  • The majority of the media has been bought off – told what to say – who to support. What were major news sources have lowered themselves to being nothing more than the tabloid media. I could get as much from the national enquirer. I prefer to get my news from the horses mouth, and make my own decisions based on fact not spin; example – this election. When Obama opened his mouth and used his own racist words as a description of our country and it’s citizens – he told me all I needed to know – NOT to vote for him.
