can somebody tell me about christianity?

I’m pretty clued up about the world, I do a lot of research and thinking about spirituality etc.
I turned away from the church because i am not a follower by nature, I stand alone and rely on myself.
I believe in chakras, etheric body and spirit body. I believe in energy pathways within the body and spiritual healing.
I believe that the universe is what can be considered to be ‘god’. that is, the whole of everything, and through all time. we are all part of the universe and all part of each other. when we look at spirit, we all have a connection to each other as we are all the same. and this is the nature of love. thus, I believe that we are all god. and god is all of us. also, christ is us and we are christ.
I believe i have a responsibility to myself, my higher self which is that that decided to come to earth in this body. my spirit self reached an agreement With all of spirit how my life would be run. since this is me that has decided that before hand and has agreed with all of creation, it is the source of love and joy.
I think sometimes that by surrendering to the being referred to as christ or the being referred to as god would be akin to worshipping a graven image.
I keep getting drawn to it though so i am in conflict. my beliefs are strong and yet I know that somehow christianity is relevant to my own beliefs. I cannot make this link though.
I know that if i become a sheep, I would shirk responsibility for myself. I would be essentially ‘giving up’ on life. I feel very strongly that it would be wrong for me to ‘submit’. I feel that by submitting, I would be denying my ownspiritual power and my own essence. I actually feel that my god is my higher self and if i were to worship what the bible calls god, I feel i would be committing a sin to (my) god. the spiritual being that governs my life. that essentially is the pure me.
The Canadian Atheist, I believe in chakras and energy pathways through personal thought and reflection on many ideas that have appeared in films and literature. not through influence of any system or dogma.
Ashton P., I love what you wrote, I feel very strongly that this is a good answer for my question.
I absolutely love the part about being in hte body of christ. this is very close to an idea i formulated a while ago concerning messiah and people in need of saving.
I’ve read a lot of passages from the bible and am constantly trying to ‘decode’ it to make sense in my mind. as I beleve that all ideas are correct just from a different perspective.
caveat lector, I think you are right that i want a feel good group. I think that perhaps i have simply seen the comradery of the church and am yearning for a group to take part and enjoy. I have very strong beliefs but i guess i am just trying to find a way to celebrate my beliefs. I think that by translating into the ‘language’ of christianity, I can embrace my beliefs while listening to their sermons. but it is looking like that may not be possible.
Obvious, I thought what you wrote was very clever 🙂
although i do believe that no matter
Obvious, I thought what you wrote was very clever 🙂
although i do believe that no matter who jesus was, the name of jesus christ has become symbolic. in some ways, I think that it is posible that when a christian refers to christ, the true meaning behind the belief system is khristos, or divine being. this is also similar to the concept of buddha. so this is what i am trying to confirm by getting a christian perspecive i guess.

  1. Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation (John 6:39-40, 1 John 5:13).
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Please pray now: “Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!” You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. 🙂

  2. You believe in “chakras” and “energy pathways” yet call others “sheep”…
Yeah, I think I see the problem here…

  3. Self-empowerment is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when realize that all you need is to believe in yourself.
The truth about Jesus is that he was not the messiah. He was a Jew he stirred up trouble during Passover (a tumultuous time in Israel even during the 1st century with Roman occupation) and felt the Roman sting for being a trouble maker. Understand that there is no heaven or hell when you die, and you will finally be at peace!
Please reassure yourself now: “Jesus cannot forgive me of my sins because he was not the messiah but rather just a man who died a long time ago. I believe that I need to live life for myself”. You will be at peace when you die. 🙂

  4. If you declare yourself a Christian, you are stating that you believe in God, that he created the earth, the heavens, man, etc. and he sent his son down to die for us. In doing so, he allowed us to get into Heaven. He is our salvation, and if we believe in him and declare him as our savior, we will go to Heaven. It is not a cult, it is a belief and its blind faith. He created us with love, and he loves you, even if you are not a believer, though you will go to hell.
And i told myself this: would i rather believe in God with all my heart and go to heaven? or act like he isn’t there, not believe, die, see that he is real, and suffer in hell for all eternity?

  5. Sounds like you want a ‘feel good’ religion.
Jesus is not for you then. ALSO… you can not make up a ‘new Jesus’ to fit your lifestyle.
He is who he is. Find out who the real Jesus is and then decide to follow him or don’t. If you wanna feel good…. forget Jesus. You will be attacked by the unbelievers.

  6. It seems like you have defined your beliefs fairly clearly and don’t need much help. I hope you find what you are looking for.

  7. In a nutshell,
    1. God created us to begin with perfect.
    2. Adam sinned and introduced sin and death to mankind.
    3. Sin results in death.
    4. God came to earth as Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
    5. Jesus never sinned.
    6. Jesus actually took on all the sins of the world upon Himself and literally became sin.
    7. Jesus was scourged and then crucified, and his death payed the penalty for YOUR sins.
    8. Jesus rose from the grave the morning of the 3rd day, thus proving once and for all time that He truly is who He claimed to be, the very Son of God.
    9. Because Jesus conquered death, hell and the grave, He can set you free from your sins, their eternal consequences, and the power that sin has over you because you are a slave to sin, and sin will drag you, kicking and screaming to hell.
    10. If you admit to God (not to a man) that you have sinned, and ask Him to forgive you (because of the vicarious death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ in your place), and repent of (turn your back on) your sins, God will forgive you, cleanse your heart (spiritually speaking), adopt you into His Forever Family, and take you to His home (heaven) when your body dies.
    11. If you neglect His offer to rescue you from your sins, then those very sins that you refused to let go of will hold on to you and (as I pointed out already) they will drag you, kicking and screaming all the way to hell.
Now it’s up to you to decide to accept God’s forgiveness and salvation, or reject it. Just remember, the Bible tells us, “How can we escape judgment if we neglect so great a salvation?”

  8. Why don’t you give the Bible and God the same chance you have given your god “you”.
I worry about the outcome though because you seem to be so into “you”.
You have to open yourself completely and study the Bible. A Bible only teaching church does not hurt either.
When I read this I felt like God is calling you but you don’t want to answer.

  9. You have it all figured out. You don’t need Christianity. How nice it must be to be smarter than everyone else.

  10. Christianity is to be Christ like. To be like Christ is to love one another. The two laws of Christianity is to love your God and to love your neighbor as yourself. Every Christian is in the body of Christ, and has a role to play. It’s all in helping each other out, and finding salvation. The earth is like a seed bed and it’s up to the Christian to tell the whole world, by planting the seed of faith. Some plant the seed, others water it, and then later on somebody else from the body will harvest. It’s very rare for somebody to have all these traits.
The Bible is a collection of books Christians read and study. Overall it answers many question, about love, money, laws, health, origin, ending, salvation, and etc. Overall the book is about redemption. Man was created by God. Man had sin, and God can’t have a relationship with sin. God brought atonement, but man could not keep the law, so God became a man and died for our sins for the wages of sin was death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. But Christianity takes years to understand. God knows this, and thus it is recorded that those new in Christ are babes and are given milk, but those who become mature are given meat. This is a simplified version, but it gets much deeper as buried treasure in the sand.

  11. Christianity is simply the belief that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to this earth, lived among people in a body of flesh and blood, died on a cross for the sins of all people, rose again from the dead, and now makes intercession for all who have believed this good news. Others have probably explained it better than I could.
The best place to start in your search for what Christianity is all about is of course the Bible. The New Testament, especially the Gospel of John, gives a list of miracles, sermons, sayings, and the like as spoken by Jesus Himself. The reason why John wrote this book is found in John 20:31–look it up.
You can also find a lot of other material at various web sites. Some of my personal favorites are Blue Letter Bible, http://www.blueletterbible.org and http://www.ccel.org Another is http://bible.crosswalk.com and I’m sure there are more. You will probably find more material on the Christian faith than you can absorb in your lifetime!
I wish you much success in your quest.

  12. You would really have to agree and believe the bible on Adam and Eve’s mistake in the Garden of Eden. Once you understand how they ruined it for all of humanity then it’s easier to see why we’re all in a mess and the world is in constant decay and turmoil. Since everyone therefore is automatically contaminated with the ability to sin, we must have someone “save” us from that condemnation.
Believing that Jesus came to earth to show us the way to salvation. That Jesus sacrificed His life for all of us that believing in Him we may have forgiveness of our sins and have eternal life. Additionally, following Jesus’ example on how to live culminates and begins to explain a broad interpretation of Christianity.

  13. Unfortunately, what you believe and the Gospel of Christ are in direct opposition to each other.
Your reference to standing alone or reliance on ones self, is in conflict because Christians, who are the “body” of Christ, are (or should be) joined through the Holy Spirit to form the Church, with Christ as Head. To rely on ones self, reveals that there is no need for a Savior, and essentially, that you are not lost through sin. The act of giving up ones self will, or surrendering to Christ is essential. The Book of Romans tells us “that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
The concept that we are in essence, “god” is also in direct contrast with the teachings of God’s word. The Bible states that God is Holy and righteous while man has been separated from God by sin. Only through the sacrifice of Christ can man be reconciled to God and only through faith in that sacrifice can the righteousness of Christ be transferred to us, thereby allowing us to be called “children of God”. This is by the grace of God resulting in salvation to them that believe.
If you feel drawn to Christianity, this may be the calling of the Holy Spirit to examine for yourself the Gospel of Christ. Read the word of God and pray that the Spirit of God would reveal Himself to you. I hope you find what you are seeking.
