Can anyone name a modern day Socrates gadfly?

I’m in a Philosophy class and we have to write a short paragraph about a modern day Socrates gadfly. If you’ve taken the class before and you know what I’m talking about that’s great, but if not basically a gadfly is someone who upsets the status quo, stirs things up and gets people moving instead of just being stagnant. Any ideas would be great!

  1. Someone like this who’s on the level of Socrates?! There are none that I know of. Or just any nutcase? In which case, Orly Taitz the crazy illegal Russian immigrant Birther Queen is a hilarious example.

  2. Ralph Nader, Dennis Kucenich, Ron Paul, Michael Moore (a little too over the top), Howard Stern and the shock-jocks that ensued.

  3. Interesting article. It’s very unfortunate that over the last years, the travel industry has had to take on terrorism, SARS, tsunamis, influenza, swine flu, as well as first ever entire global economic downturn. Through everthing the industry has proven to be powerful, resilient plus dynamic, discovering new solutions to deal with adversity. There are always fresh challenges and opportunities to which the sector must all over again adapt and reply.

  4. Gadflies are rare today. The American national press rarely give them the time of day.
I think the suggestions of Ralph Nader, Dennis Kucinich, and Ron Paul are all right on.
Many of them have been martyred for their ideas and faith.
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. comes to mind.
Even President John F. Kennedy, a rare gadfly, who also occupied the Office of President, with his political courage and vision for a more peaceful world.
