Are we as Christians really part of the Occult?

Everyone keeps saying that Christianity is the Occult and that we practice occult teachings. When i ask them why, they say that beliefs in the supernatural is what being in the occult is. They also say that prayers to supernatural beings is the same as incantations or spell of black magic which is also the occult. They also claim that Occult means hidden and unknown and since we believe in beings that are hidden and unknown that again makes us part of the occult. So fellow Christians what do you think of all of this?

  1. There really is no “Occult”—such things don’t actually “work” in this universe. However, Christianity does embrace many supernatural beliefs.

  2. There’s really no difference, supernaturally speaking, between Christianity and Scientology. It’s all insanity to someone, and it all comes down to what you believe, not what’s real.

  3. The Occult means secret. If you keep it secret, it’s occult. Whether it’s “supernatural” or not.

  4. those people are right. All occult books are based on christianity and the bible which is a book of black magic and the occult

  5. Under that definition EVERY religion is a cult. There are not that many religions out there that practice such things. They exist, but they are not as popular as everyone thinks. “Everyone” that is telling you this nonsense is probably an atheist. They have no idea what cults are and what Christianity is. Atheists think they are the only smart ones and that everyone else is deluded. If atheists bother you about your faith ask them about theirs. They cannot defend atheism so they attack Christianity. E-mail me and I can give you some real questions to ask atheists.

  6. Whoever is telling you this has a warped sense of logic.
Without the use of all the technical terms ~ God is THE supernatural. He’s not to be equated with spells and black magic as if He’s just another common entity in a long list of false and curious beliefs and practices.
The occult has to do with anything supernatural outside of God.
Don’t fall for this argument. Whoever is using it is attempting to reduce God right from the outset of their argument. This is a false assertion ~ don’t accept this premise by trying to answer the question.
Perhaps you can see what I mean by this example…
If someone were to ask this question ~ “Seeing that The Bible teaches hatred, intolerance, and bigotry, what is your position on same sex marriages?”
Can you see how the question begins with a false assertion? By jumping into an answer about your position on same sex marriages, you essentially agree with the false premise, and you’ve lost the argument as soon as it began.
It takes a little practice to begin picking up on these things, but the same tactic can be seen in this occult argument.

  7. Yes! Take your blinders off, and you may realize Christianity isn’t so different from every other religion around. The word doesn’t have to have a negative connotation, you know. And to the Christians insisting that you have the wrong definition for the word ‘occult’, they need to look in a dictionary and find or make-up a different word that is accurate with what they’re talking about.

  8. There are evil spirits and there are good ones..God, is a Spirit..the Devil is a spirit. If one plays in the occult world then they are right there with the evil spirits.
True Christians have nothing to do with the Occult. It is condemned in the Bible and should not be practiced. If one opens themselves up to such then they can expect to have evil spirits in direct involvement with their lives. Its not a game, its serious stuff. Christians who worship God, our Heavenly Father are in no way part of any Occult. Ever who is saying things such as this, is trying to make themselves feel better about the evil they are dabbling in .

  9. There is a disappointing lack of education here.
In definition: occult simply means something hidden. An occultic blood test is simply a blood test your doctor does to find what is hidden in the blood (like cholesterol levels) because it cannot be seen without a microscope. History is occultic because it is seeking for answers that are not readily apparent without some research. Occult means to research what is not readily apparent to the average person. Nothing more. And this could include the research into psychic, paranormal, and spiritual experiences. It should not be equated with “evil” or “bad.” And this is why Christians are made fun of by the “occultic” community because of their ignorance to the definition – and the hypocrisy that their own research into spirituality and Scripture are occultic endeavors.
A “cult” is not connected to the word “occult” at all – and to do so again conveys gross ignorance and lack of education. Cult means “a system of religious worship, rites, or ceremonies.” (Webster’s dictionary) Christianity is a cult in the basics of definition.
When it comes to the psychological and law enforcement definition of a cult, Christianity hits all the attributes of a cult mentality than any “occult” religion. Christianity is a religion that dictates how to act, how and when to have sex, how to live your life on a daily basis, requires followers to give money (tithing), requires the recruitment of others (saving souls; spreading the “Good Word”), and will require a follower of the religion to cut off family completely if they are not “saved” too. These are the qualities that make cults “dangerous,” use brainwashing techniques, and can lead to criminal activity (how many people kill others because they heard “God tell them to do it”?) It is also a religion that worships a human sacrifice (Jesus on the cross) and drinks blood (wine of communion.)
And this is why Christians become the brunt of jokes and will not be taken seriously by “occultists.”
To tell the truth, the only thing Christians know of the “occult,” magical and Pagan religions and practices is from the half truths mixed with the lies of propaganda taught to them in their church, which are grossly blown out of proportion that it is really NOT funny. It is as bad as Hitler making the propaganda about the Jews with the Nazi party, leading to people to fear a certain group of people and blame them for the “evils” of the world. Christianity has a “group mentality” where followers must blindly follow the doctrine of the Scriptures and their religious or spiritual leaders with only “faith” and without being allowed to question the purpose, sources, or logic of what they are demanded to follow. They are brainwashed into clinging to an “occultic” hidden, and unprovable concept of rewards in heaven or suffer the atrocities of hell. It keeps them ruled in a mindset of reward or fear, to follow a certain agenda only known by the leaders or “God.”
Whereas Paganism and magical belief systems teach science, logic, learning to question and think outside of the box, finding the uniqueness of each individual in their intelligence and character, researching provable sources, and focuses on the individual and not the group mind set. It is about a personal relationship with the Divine…not one that is dictated to you by an outside source. And discovering what makes being human sacred…rather than being obsessed with how being human is “sinful.” It is about enjoying life and love here right now, not on guilt and shame and looking to another hidden world of “a new heaven and a new earth” that is only a delusion to keep people from taking responsibility of what we can do here and now to make the world a better place.
To believe in a God that is unseen, to believe in spirits, in angels, and in miracles puts Christians in league with the supernatural and the occult. No matter what Christians may try to do to prove otherwise, it is likewise a practitioner of black magic (praying to change the will of another…for example, for God to save a soul would be considered black magic in magical ethics), a religion that promotes hatred of others, has a history of torture, death, and warfare, worships and promotes human sacrifice, the drinking of blood, cannibalism, has a history of people killing others in the name of “God,” and literally all the things that Christians accuse non-Christians of, their religion promotes.
It is a religion of hypocrisy, which is why it is not taken seriously when people say “God loves you.” and “Jesus saves.” It is a scary thing to be non-Christian to know you can be attacked at any time. And that our Earth and natural resources are being destroyed by this “majority religion” that has connections to the Muslim and Jewish religions, the MAIN sources of all wars of the world since ancient times.
I would like to see the end of all of this destruction.

  10. Incantation is much different than prayer.
    Prayer is directed to God.
Incantations are directed to spirits in rebellion to God
Prayer has, as it’s ultimate goal, to bring about the will and pleasure of God regarding a situation
Incantation has, as it’s ultimate goal, rebellion to God through seeking power or information by sources that are evil.
To say that prayer to God and incantations to demons are the same is to so oversimplify the two things that if you were to take that oversimplification into other areas of life a person would end up thinking that a flu shot is equally invasive and harmful as being injected with arsenic because they both involve needles and a substance being delivered through them.
A person may not like Christianity but they should recognize the fundamental differences between that and the occult.
The occult seeks to emulate much of what we find naturally through God but using evil sources and to evil ends.

  11. The word occult can have many meanings. In the context of the supernatural, I believe it means, hidden. Having been a spirtualist and tarot card reader and now a spirit-filled (born again) Christian, I can testify to the two forces at work in our world. One spirit force works in the dark and hidden and acts as a counterfeit to the light and overt work of our Holy Spirit. This is not new and has been going on in our World since the fall of Adam and Eve. Satan is a deciever who’s native tongue is the language of lies (John 8) and he roams the earth (with the rest of the fallen angels) trying to entice people’s spirits to himself.
Many people get involved in occultic practices without seriously thinking about the force behind them. Often they are disguised as being for the benefit of people eg enlightenment, healing, hope for the future, comfort for the grieving. This is what attracts people to get involved. The problem is, the force behind it has an ulterior motive – the father of lies, the devil, wants to get into your spirit. If the person acting in the realm of the supernatural cannot declare that the power behind what they’re doing is Jesus Christ, then to whom do they attribute the power to? Themselves? Angels? A wee lucky charm? Crystal Ball?
This is the difference between Christians and all other supernatural practices. We know and Love our Creator and acknowledge all Power and Glory to Him.
The Christian practice is to Love. First to Love our Lord with all our Heart, all our soul, all our mind and with all our strength and secondly, to Love our neighbour as ourself. It is not to cast spells, look into the unknown, become enlightened or at one with the world or to charge money to heal.
My experience has shown me that the supernatural is real, very real and you could not be a Christian if you do not believe in the Holy Spirit for Jesus himself taught about it. He also taught about the dark forces at work in this world. It’s all there in the bible. Witches, Necrmancers, diviners and more have been around for thousands of years. To say that Christianity is the Occult, i’m afraid is an uninformed and twisted statement.
My friend, Jesus himself was accused of working for the devil (Matthew 12:24) when he healed a blind and mute man. The Pharisees claimed that he drove out demons in the name of Beezlebub, the prince of demons and not by The Holy Spirit. Jesus goes onto warn that anyone that speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come (Matthew 12:32). This is quite a warning for anyone who accuses the work of the Holy Spirit to be of another force. As Jesus said, why would Satan want to drive out demons? They are his destructive force. Only Christ, by his Spirit can do this.
Ok, so this is a little long winded – but it’s so serious. I was heavily involved in the occult and it was hideous. It masked as light to begin with and got pretty dark. When I gave my life to God, it took nine years to become filled with the Holy Spirit – that’s how muddied I’d become. I cannot tell you how amazing my life is now I know Christ. Not that I thought my life was bad before, it just wasn’t amazing. I thought I knew about the supernatural before but now I realise I was acting in the paranormal. Now, I know the enormity of the supernatural and it blows my mind.
God is Love and anyone looking for the perfect Love should ask God to show him/her. It’s easy, just say – “God will you show me what this crazy person is going on about – will you show me you and your Love.”
Keep close to the Lord when dealing anything to do with the dark forces of the world and clothe yourself with the Armour of the Lord (Ephesians 6:10) beforehand.
Before getting involved in alternative practices, consider the force behind it? Research it first.
    God Bless.
