Are there any more reliable texts to daoism/ taoism than the dao de jing?

the Te of Piglet and tha Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff. I have the Te of piglet, its a great book. I think sun tzu wrote a book on taoism too.

Tao te Ching, in my opinion is the only real text on Taoism. It was the first after that it all went mystical with the I Ching, and you start getting immortals, and magic, and it’s all madness.

For a more modern perspective on Taoism, I highly recommend “Way of the Peaceful Warrior”, by Dan Millman.

Look for books of proverbs, because they usually have some stuff from Confucius in them. If that doesn’t work, look for some books with pictures of yin and yang or have the word Confucius or Laozi.

Chuang-Tzu is also interesting, but I would advise going through the various translations of the Tao, if only to see the significant differences among them.
You might check out “Chinese philosophy” on the net. The Wikipedia will provide many refs.

there are many other great Taoist books out there. im sure you found the concepts from the Tao Te Ching to be very confusing, well i afraid its about to be taken to a whole new level.
My personal favourite is ‘The Way of Chuang Tzu.’ he is the earliest Taoist philosopher whom there is proof of his existence – there are many theories about Lao Tzu. This book has approx 60 short stories written by Chuang Tzu and his disciple and is a beautiful read.
other excellent Taoist books are ‘I Ching’ which cover some aspects of Buddhism and Confucianism, which both have their similarities with Taoism.
Another book by Lao Tzu is ‘Hua Hu Ching’ translated as further teachings of Lao Tzu and a must read after Tao Te Ching.
There are other books which you can read but there are too many to list here, so try google-ing it.
