Are Tarot Cards Playthings Of The Devil?

Are or can they just be cards used to guide and bring insight into one’s life. I’ve always had an interest in the occult, it’s never left me, so now I’m debating on whether to indulge in this little interest of mine. I plan to use them somewhat as a form of meditation. And I always wanted to learn about them.
What do you think? Am I going down a slipper slide, that will eventually lead to more things?
Can there ever be a healthy interest in the supernatural?

  1. Seeing as I am studying to read Tarot and I do not believe in the devil, then no….
But, eh, it is whatever you believe… I can’t and won’t try to change your mind.

  2. They’re harmless. They aren’t magical. At most they’re a way to get you to look at a situation from a different perspective, or to let you listen to what your subconscious is telling you.

  3. I gave the Tarot up at 16 years of age. I am now 53.
I gave them up after using the I-Ching just a few times.
The Tarot cards are not the playthings of the Devil and, to be honest, aligning yourself with what you term, “the supernatural” is perfectly natural to do.
In fact, you should consider the supernatural to be the “extended natural” that you’ve just not yet explored, or not yet explored enough. It’s your birthright to seek knowledge along an Occult or Spiritual path of your choice, if that’s where you feel you want to go.
It’s in you and it’s all around you, so it pays to learn about it.

  4. Can there be a healthy interest in the supernatural – not really lol I used to have a huge fascination with it, It ended up distancing me from God. When you take an interest in that stuff you open yourself up to the influenicng of demons. yah.

  5. Tarot Cards were invented slightly after regular playing cards, to play a family of games called collectively Tarochio which are no longer popular.
Tarot Cards have no more connection with the Devil than Ludo or Snakes and Ladders.
Maybe less: Snakes and Ladders has a snake in it.

  6. tarot cards are a useful tool for pagans. and therefor cannot have any relevance to satanism. look more into it, and how to use them properly, then indulge! blessed be.

  7. There can be a healthy interest in the supernatural without delving into the darker side of the occult. Tarot cards are a unique and calming way to bring insight into your life. It takes practice but it can be a wonderful interest. The key is to find a healthy balance between your interest in the occult and your life. Don’t let it consume your life. It’s when you start to invoke spirits is when you are going to have problems. Quija boards and those seances hosted by inexperienced people may lead to other things and open doors you dont want to be opened.

  8. I think there are two aspects to Tarot Cards. The supernatural as you call it and your understanding.
Most people focus on the supernatural aspect. Somehow the cards tap into the supernatural world and forecast the future.
However I think think the cards biggest power is in drawing the truth from you. Each card makes you think about how its aspects are reflected in your life. After a reading you should have a better understanding of all of things that impact whatever question you asked.
… healthy interest in the supernatural? If by supernatural you mean those aspects of life we cannot see and touch, I would say yes.
I think there is clearly something beyond our 5 regular senses and most people perceive that. I think that is why religion can be found in every culture. We know there is supernatural things and we need to try to understand it.

  9. Even believers in God can study the supernatural. As someone mentioned, supernatural is very much just an extension of natural. Tarot cards are just, as you said, tools to guide and bring insight to one’s life. How can God dislike that? If it wasn’t natural to know our paths, our destiny before it happens than how can some humans, who are undeniably natural, know these things? They are simply more open to the world around them, they can see things others cannot. They have a stronger connection to the world, which is, according to some (I’m staying neutral on this point, I’m not saying I agree or disagree) was created by God, or another deity. If tarot cards are used to be more in touch with the world, how can they be evil?

  10. Well, tarot cards are certainly not the playthings of the Devil – they don’t actually have an occult origin at all. They were invented in mid 15th century Italy and consist of two parts: a standard pack of Latin suited playing cards (which existed in Europe before Tarot) and a fifth suit of picture cards. These extra cards took as their theme a triumph procession, hence their early name of trionfi, meaning triumphs and from which we get our word trump. And that is what they were, a suit of fixed trumps for a family of card games variously known as Tarocchi, Tarock, and Tarot (which is the later French name that we inherited). Another post here suggests that these games are no longer popular but in fact they continue to be played in Italy, Sicily, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Germany, France, and Denmark. If they were really Devilish, then after nearly 600 years of popular game play, someone would have noticed.
The tarot cards that you will see in most shops came about through occultist redesign during the early 20th century. These cards certainly do reflect occult beliefs but they are modern corruptions of the original designs.
With regards to introspective meditation, there is nothing supernatural about that, nor should it be unhealthy – and you can use anything that is meaningful to you as a focus. So, if an occult tarot has images that you would find useful in this way, then there’s no real reason not to use it. Use whatever works!
Can there be a healthy interest in the supernatural? Yes, one that is grounded in open minded skepticism. I’m not saying that you should start out with a prejudice but with a questioning mind – you demand high standards of evidence and reason from medicine and other areas of science, they are high standards that should be applied to all truth claims, particularly those that are extraordinary!

  11. The second. It’s too easy to write things off as being the play thing of the Devil. the only playground of the devil is someones mind and heart and if they are in light there cannot be darkness.
