Any people out there believe in Taoism?

Are there any people out there who believe in Taoism? I’m exploring different religions because I realized that I don’t really believe most of what the bible says. But I still believe in some sort of god/s. Would someone be willing to teach me a little about Taoism over email or Yahoo messenger?

  1. whats taoism?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  2. Are you aware that Taoism is an old Chinese religion/tradition? In fact, a majority of indigenous, tribal ethnic groups still practice Taoism. And surprisingly enough, most of these groups are refugees of the Vietnam War, my parents and relatives being some of them. Anyhow, I’m a professing Christian now, but Taoism used to be what I was all about. Long story made short, I don’t think you’d want to get into it because it’s pretty scary and ambiguous.

  3. I’m a Taoist (philosophy only though) with a strong leaning towards Zen and Tibetan Buddhism.
I’m not sure if I can help, as my belief in these systems are the philosophy only, not the religion.
I might recommend that you read the Tao Te Ching and then the Tao of Pooh.
Both of these books give a much deeper understanding of the Tao than anything else.
But yes, if you would like to discuss Taoism, I would be happy to do what I can to answer your questions about the way.
    Hope that this helps.

  4. Taoism is supposed to be based on the teachings of Lao Tzu
(sometimes written Lao Tze) as written in the book ” The Tau Te Ching”. The sound in Chinese that Westerners translate as T is more like our D, which is why you will also read “Daoism” and
“Dao Te Ching”. Taoism was also heavily influenced by the writings of Chuang Tzu who lived about 250BC (Lao Tzu lived about 500BC according to Chinese tradition.
I say that Taoism is “supposed” to be based on the teachings of of Lao Tzu because although I lived according to his teachings for 4or5 years, I was never in touch with with people who called themselves Taoists. Some people call Taoism a religion, others say it is a philosophy. I would say that Lau Tsu’s teachings are more of a philosophy. Much of his teachings have to do with; what is true wisdom, what is the nature of ultimate reality, the nature of how the mind looks at things, and encourages not interfering in other peoples lives. Yahoo does not let us post E-Mails in this “answers” venue but I’ll try to get on Yahoo Messenger and I like to share info that I have.
