Would you recognize a Bodhisattva if h/s was right under your nose? If so how?

A Bodhisattva is one who has chosen to postpone Nirvana to remain incarnated to help in bringing all beings to an enlightened state.

  • The spiritually educated would recognize the word Nirvana as being Hindu. Union with the Supreme Brahman through moksa, i.e., release from the cycle of birth and death and the pain, sorrow, and suffering of the human condition. Nirvana is the immediate experience of the ego-less self with the blissful Brahman.
The Buddhist view of nibbana (Pali, from Sanskrit nirvana) is different from the Hindu.
The concept nibbana is primarily Mahayanist; all good Buddhists are potentially bodhisattvas. A bodhisattva main characteristic is his intense love and compassion for the mortal world, which he sees as “victims going to slaughter.” The bodhisattva wants to “become the savior of all beings and set them free from their sufferings.”
Buddhists do interpret the term in the Hindu manner as “dying out” or “extinction” (as of a fire), others find in it an archaic meaning of “he who is cooled” – i.e., from the fever of greed, hatred and delusion, the three principal evils in Buddhism thought. The western interpretation of nibbana as total extinction or annihilation was explicitly denied by Buddha.
The evolution of the bodhisattva of today has evolved a long distance from yesteryears. A bodhisattva’s in today’s world has dropped the identification with an ego obtaining enlightenment in his lifetime. He is one who is cooled. Thus nibbana is a state to be realized here and now in agreement with Zen Buddhism. The bodhisattva of today is in agreement with the Hindu union with Source but in the now. Their difference being of choice to reincarnation too complete the work of enlightenment within every human being or not to and merges with the whole. The bodhisattvas in the world of duality remain undercover with no religious dogma but will fall into place when needed. They can be found as a guru, doctor, car salesman, and prisoner or wherever they find a person or group with potential. The bodhisattva advocates no soul and no heaven or hell. They may be found within the circles Pantheism.
“A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge.” Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot (1994

  • Bodhisattva means ready to become fully awake.
Bodhisattva has not chosen any thing !
Nobody can give you an enlightened state You have to earn it !
    Appo dipo bhawa!

  • A Bodhisattva is still a worldling. But those who have the aspiration to become a Buddha is called a Bodhisattva. Those people who practice Buddha Dharma seriously but have the aspiration to become Buddhas are Bodhisattvas. They’re unenlightened human beings but are collecting their paramis by practicing the Dhamma seriously and continuously.
