I change religions about every six to twelve months (this is intentional and part of my path), but shamanism isn’t one I’ve tried yet. I’ve performed some shamanistic rituals, but not followed it as a religion. I may well get to it in a year or two–I tend to cycle my earth-based religions around, and all signs are pointing towards a shift to Odinism quite shortly, but it is certainly something I’ll end up with at some point, no doubt.
Probably not completely b/c I believe in several different things from different religions. I do believe in being able to heal one’s self & others. Sounds extremely interesting though so I’ll definately do some research on it.
I tried it for a couple years in my younger days – I admit I was mostly interested in the “ethobotony” aspects. Well, I was interested in getting in touch with the “spiritual realm”, which I’ve always been a little dubious of, and figured a good way to speed things up would involve Ayahuasca.
For those not in the loop, that’s a South American aboriginal concoction containing high concentrations of MAOI-beta and di-methyl tryptamine (DMT); if a pint of that stuff don’t make you believe in spirits, nothing will.
Anyway, depite my efforts, I couldn’t find any compelling evidence that my “spirits” were coming from some place other than my own drug-addled brain. So I gave it up.
I’m not saying there’s nothing too it, just that it wasn’t for me.

Of course cos it makes a lot more sense…. so yes that could be considered an “option” for me, but I am happy as I am for now.
