What do you think when you hear “Taoism”?

I think: I want to be in a religion, but I don’t want to get off of the couch.

And you?

    Something along the lines of:
Tao. It is everything and nothing. It exists in everything and nothing. It is the absolute law. It is unknowable. It is a mystery. It is the truth. It it light, it is shadow. It is red, it is blue. It is you, it is me. Ad infinitum.

i think of the eastern religion that has the ying and yang thing but dosnt have any gods ‘i dont think’. i think they just focus on the guy that started it but i could be wrong. we studied a lot of religions at once in school.
why do u want to just BE inn a religion? is there a reason? i dont classify myself as anything evanthough i dont believe in god, i know thats atheaist but i dont call myself that.
i dont see the reason in being in a religion if i dont see the point in the message theyre sending.

Me? Yep, I’m a religious couch potato.

Actually, that’s not quite true. I’ll go to any kind of service of any kind of religion, if I’m invited.

So I guess I’m less a couch potato and more a guy relationship stereotype, the commitmentaphobe. I like to learn about all religions, but I won’t commit to any.

I thought about the question as I read it. I think Taoism is very similar to Buddhism and Christianity. Perhaps the other major religions as well. Taoism and Buddhism are already merging in mainland China. Taoism and all the other major religions have similar themes, such as The Golden Rule. They all stand for doing unto others as you would have done to you. The thing that makes Taoism stand out from the others is that the true Taoist practitioner is not passionate about his religion — Taoism. Or anything else for that matter. The Taoist believes in going with the flow. Relax and let life unfurl as it was intended to unfurl. Participate in living with humility, wisdom and a calm disposition. Be in harmony with the universe. That, I believe, is Taoism. You do have to get off the couch eventually, but wait until you truly have to.

  27. Sage says:

TAOISM – A system of religion and philosophy based on the teachings of Lao-tze 6th century Chinese philosopher advocating a simple and honest life and non interference with the course of natural events.

    Far nicer than christianity!!

But there are many non god religions out there!! The largest is probably BUDDHISM – Religious teaching from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and delusion (the cause of all suffering) man can attain perfect enlightenment!!

But why do you want to shackle your brain and handicap yourself?!!

Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the “intellectual elite” considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God.”
