I was looking at some Wiccan jewelery and found many necklaces with fairies on them. Is this just decoration or do fairies symbolize any wiccan beliefs? Thanks.

  • I am practicing wicca and have found fairies are quite helpfull. Fairies can help you find things and are sometimes called “the little people”. It is good for them to trust you, you can leave sweets outside for them or shiney coins, but I’m not sure if they symbolize anything, maybe helpfulness (?)

  • My theory about Fairies is that back in the dark ages when people had forgotten all about real spiritual beliefs they wanted to not to rebel and have people thinking that they were somehow connected spiritual beliefs. Yet instead of Angels they made them Fairies and kept their magical powers along with their wings.

  • I read that faeries symbolize many things, beauty and femininity, that nature is fragments of earths spirits, but my favorite is that they represent spirituality because wings are depicted as the manifestation of the human psyche, and faeries are humans with wings… But they are just also symbolized that you believe in magic or magical beings because most of the time they represent ALL mystical creatures in old texts.

  • There is a type of Wicca called Faery Wicca which (obviously) strongly beleives in fairies and finds ways to add them to the sabbats and rituals and things. Most wiccans just use them to symbolize nature spirits and things in wiccan spells though.

  • faeries dont really symbolise anything. they are spirts of nature and are handy to work with for they are very magical. they are cheeky but arnt we all alittle mischevious?. thats just how they are. but they can also be dangerous if you dont know what your doing. so if they MUST symbolise something, its harmless parnks, with a tint of danger. which every body is drawn to

  • a fairy is the name they use to describe Evil or Wicked spirits.
i think the ones that live in close contact with them. The ones they use for advise and education.
    THEY ARE NOT FAIRIES…..

  • I agree wholeheartedly with Prariecrow.

I was raised to see faeries as a problem. If you had the misfortune to have them in your house I was taught ways to get rid of them. I *still* throw iron filings in the mulch when I can…

But in my training as a Wiccan, they never came up.

  • Generally speaking fairies have no place in Wiccan cosmology.

Some Wiccans LIKE fairies, and hence people will make jewelry to sell to them. But the Wiccan religion itself doesn’t include the concept of fairies, at least as I was taught.

  • Many Wiccans work with Fae folk (or faeries as they are commonly known, although technically a faerie is just one of the Fae) in their spells and rituals because they are nature spirits.

Faeries represent a lot of different things to different people, but in general they represent the chaotic side of nature, as faeries tend to be mischievous (but not necessarily evil).

  • hmm I’m not sure. I’m pagan, but not Wiccan. I’ve never heard that they symbolized anything but I can’t say for sure.
