In the words of Lao Tzu, 5th century BCE: “Those who know, do not preach. Does who preach, do not know…” Does this phrase transcend the test of time and still ring true today? “It is preaching about not preaching, and therefore moronic at best.” Lao Tzu didn’t create a rigid set of doctrines, and merely suggested to his students to go out into the world and find their own path in life. “Really? That’s like letting kids loose in a library without teaching them literary theory or any critical...
Who is Lao Tzu? 3 question I asked about him? 1. Is Lao Tzu studies a religion? 2. Was there any negatives talks about Lao Tzu? 3. Did they worship Lao Tzu? I asked this because there’s a lot of malignant religions out there. I read 10 chapters of one of his books The Tao Te Ching and I got interested. But I don’t want to follow The Tao Te Ching and finder out that Lao Tzu did a lot of evil things.
“The best (man) is like water. Water is good; it benfits all things and does not compete ith them. It dwells in (lowly) places that all disdain. This is why it is so near to the Tao. [The best man] in his dwelling loves the eart. In his heart, he loves what is profound. In his associations, he loves humanity. In his words, he loves faithfulness. In government, he loves order. In handling affairs, he loves competence. In his activities, he loves timeliness. It is because he does not competethat he is without reproach.”
we have a meeting of the minds project for class, and i have to be Lao Tzu, an ancient chinese philosopher who wrote the Tao. How can i dress up like him? also, we have to bring a gift for everyone representing our philosopher’s ideas, and i don’t know what to make? what i make to represent the Tao or Lao Tzu?
i have notes i guess i just need the question simplified or something to start me on a roll – thanks in advance. “Therefore, when the Tao is lost, only then does the doctrin of virtue arise. When virtue is lost, only then does doctrine of humanity arise” Is this criticism of Confucius way? On what grounds? If anyone can simplify the quote and maybe very briefy attempt the question I’d much appreciate it
