Is yoga worth doing for about 10 minutes everyday to help lose weight?

I want to lose some weight and someone I know has been doing yoga for 3 months and she lost some weight and I was wondering if just 10 minutes everyday would be good.
I don’t eat fast foods, and junk foods, and barely drink soda, and I usually drink water a lot.

  • Hi there,

I think you might be getting a little mixed up with what you want exactly. You say that you want to lose “weight” but that means you might want to get rid of some muscle too. You then say that you’d like to “shape” (I’d call it tone) your body a little which implies you want to build some muscle. I’m not trying to pick at your question – I just want to clarify the point for you.

To answer it in the best way, I am going to look at it as if you want to get rid of fat AND build muscle at the same time. If you’re looking to “trim” and “tone” your body, and espectially because you suggest you are not that overweight, I would suggest you start performing more intensive aerobic exercises such as jogging. I wouldn’t think you need to change the whole way you eat or go on a diet because if you’re wanting to build muscles – it’s better to do it all with exercise.

Exercises like jogging won’t exactly “build” your muscles on your stomach but they will help reduce the extra fat around there. Depending on how fit you are, you should go on daily or bi-daily jogs of around a mile. To build muscles, you should concentrate on anaerobic exercises such as sit-ups to help build muscles.

These muscle-building exercises will give your muscles the toning and training they need to grow and become more prominent. To start to see a real difference with sit-ups, you should be looking to do no more than 100 every day (more than that will often hurt your muscles).

If you stick to doing those two forms of exercise – jogging and sit-ups, you should see real improvements in a week or two. Remember, you should do them as often as you can (I.E every single day).

  • Yoga or any exercise for a matter of fact will do nothing to your body if only practiced for 10 minutes a day. If your want to actually lose weight you have to change lifestyles not try for a miracle cure.

Here are the first steps to starting yoga with a weight loss attitude: http://www.loseweightloss.info/2010/01/weight-loss-yoga-poses.html

First you have to eat right not small meals but healthy meals.
Second you have to find a physical exercise that’s fun for you
Third half an hour a day spent taking care of your body is NOT asking too much.

So 10 minutes just means you are not serious about it. Talking is pretty and all but the first thing you got to say is i’m going to do it. Then you go and do.

    It’s that simple

I did exercise weightloss disc and I lost about 20 pounds in not even 3 months. And I’ve kept it off
for almost 2 years now. I found it to be the way because it pretty effective and you didn’t have to
count points or anything like that. What I lost really isn’t typical for the amount of time I did it
but I know others who have done it and they got really good results from it as well.here you can find
a good weight loss disc http://www.weightlossdisc.com

  • Losing weight is more about what type of foods you eat. If your diet consists of mainly fast food than your yoga is useless. Surely the person you know didn’t eat junk foods everyday while doing yoga and lose weight.

  • 10 minutes is not long enough for yoga as weight loss. If you want to lose weight, do yoga for at least 45 minutes, and throw in some cardio as well. Yoga is mostly used to strengthen and tone but you can lose weight and inches if you do it long enough.

  • It’s better than nothing. But if your main goal is to loose weight, you will not loose weight from only 10 minutes of yoga. And if you do loose weight, it will come off very slowly with that regimin.

  • Its better than nothing. but to get in shape cardio and more vigorus exercise is needed.
Once I got where I wanted to be I used yoga to stay there, however Id do it closer to 45min a day.

  • 20 would merely scratch the surface.

10? You may as well brush your teeth and burn calories. 🙂
