Is Meditating on Chakras Against My Christian Faith? – Exploring the Spiritual Implications

Exploring the Spiritual Intersection: Is Meditating on Chakras Against My Christian Faith?
Photo by Patrick Fore on Unsplash

Hey there, folks! When it comes to seekin’ spiritual growth and findin’ some inner peace, we stumble upon interestin’ practices that might make us Yankees question how they jive with our Christian beliefs. One topic that grabs our attention is chakra meditation. Now, ya might wonder: Does messin’ with chakras go against my Christian faith? Well, let’s unpack this here question, dive into what Christianity is all about, listen to some wise spiritual gurus, and figure out if chakra meditation and faith can get along.

Understandin’ the Complexity of Organized Religion

Now, throughout history, organized religions ain’t always been saints. They got mixed up in wars, power struggles, and all sorts of crazy stuff that don’t fit their original mission of bringin’ peace and connectin’ with the divine. It’s important to separate the core beliefs of a religion from the actions of its followers and institutions.

Prayer vs. Meditation: Explorin’ the Path to Gettin’ Spiritual

Listen up, folks. We gotta understand the difference between prayer and meditation. This fella Osho, he’s got some smarts. He says prayer is all about talkin’ to someone who ain’t there. That’s right, talkin’ to nobody! Now, meditation, that’s where the real juice is. It takes you on an inward journey, gettin’ you connected to the source of your own consciousness. That’s the kind of thing that can align with Christianity, if ya ask me.

Christian Experiences and Mind-Blowin’ Encounters

Ya know, us Christians have some powerful testimonies. We talk about feelin’ the Holy Spirit’s presence, gettin’ healed by the divine, and all sorts of jaw-droppin’ stuff. Sometimes, these experiences remind us of what happens when them chakras start buzzin’. But hold your horses, it’s all about interpretation, my friends. Everyone’s got their own take on things, dependin’ on their beliefs and perspectives.

The Bible and the Inner Revolution

Let’s crack open that Bible, shall we? It’s got some interestin’ bits that might make ya think chakra meditation and Christianity ain’t so far apart. Take the Book of Revelation, for example. It talks about openin’ them seven seals, which is like a fancy way of sayin’ gettin’ spiritually enlightened. And then there’s that story about Jacob meetin’ God at Peniel, which sounds a whole lot like awakenin’ the “third eye” or that pineal gland. It’s like fireworks in the brain when ya start connectin’ the dots.

Wisdom from the Masters and Explorin’ Chakras

Now, listen here, folks. These spiritual gurus, like Osho, got some pearls of wisdom to share. Osho talks about meditatin’ on them chakras, diggin’ deep into ourselves, and transformin’ our lives. Sure, his views might not align perfectly with traditional Christian doctrines, but he sure makes ya think. It’s like chewin’ on a juicy piece of gum—ya gotta savor the flavor.

Keepin’ the Faith and Trustin’ Yourself

Now, as good ol’ Christians, we gotta find a balance between faith and trustin’ our own judgment. We respect the teachings of Christianity, but that don’t mean we can’t explore spiritual practices that deepen our faith and connection with God. If chakra meditation helps us align with the divine and transform ourselves, why not give it a shot? It’s all about approachin’ it with respect, sincerity, and an open heart.

Conclusion

So there ya have it, folks. The dance between Christianity and chakra meditation is a deeply personal journey. Sure, organized religions have had their hiccups along the way, but at the heart of Christianity lies the pursuit of peace, love, and communion with the divine. Embracin’ meditation, includin’ chakra meditation, as a way to explore our inner selves and strengthen our connection with God can bring us harmony. Remember, it’s all about explorin’, reflectin’, and growin’ in our own unique way.

Note: This article aims to offer a fresh perspective but ain’t meant to be the final say on the matter. Keep on explorin’ and findin’ your truth, my friends.

I’m a bit conflicted with this. I’m Catholic. When I went to a Catholic retreat, I felt the Holy Spirit hit me the way it is described as the Kundalini. I felt an electric zing on my spine go around it, from bottom to top.
One night I did some intense praying, then I put on some head ohones and starting doing one if these meditation videos from youtube with a green stone which I set as Archangel Raphael( I guess you can say I mixed in a little new age)…I saw the wooden cross of Jesus then a green flash light that went towards an injured eye I had. It cured my eye from an injury.
I threw away all of my stones/crystals. As much as I loved them, I didn’t want to risk them attaching bad energy.
I see nothing wrong with quieting the mind to angelic music after prayer and calling the Holy Spirit the whole entire time. This sounds like a safe bet to me. But opening chakras, idk…I don’t want to take chances inviting something that isn’t good.
I’m one those who sometimes doesn’t know what the heck shes doing.

It probably is against your religion but it isnt against the bibe. Why do you think fundamentalist are so set against it? It doesnt make Jesus irrelevant it proves that he is God! Who could open the 7 seals in the book of revelations? Only the lamb of God, and when the 7th seal was open there was silence in heaven. Paraphrasing— when the crown chakra is opened there is total tranquility in the mind and a union with God. ancients called it Samadhi. Jacob claimed he had seen God face to face and called the place Peniel(the pineal gland-the third eye) As the lightning flashes from one part of heaven unto the other- is simply neurons firing when the pineal gland is activated. Luke 17 the kingdom of heaven isnt something that is here or there the kingdom of heaven is within you! Woe unto you Pharisees for you will not enter in yourselves and you hinder those who would enter in. Do you not know your body is the temple of God? Awake O sleeper, rise up from the dead and Christ will give you light. We could go on all night. If meditating is bad because you observe your thoughts then I am in big trouble I am going to bed and sleep and be totally unconscious.—–spooky huh. Good night and God Bless. Then you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free

All very interesting, religion is meant to be a tool not a weapon. But remember there is opposition in all things. I follow the dictates of my own conscience and allow all me the same privilege.
Let them worship how or where or what they may. Agape.
Heavenly Father loves me and all his children. He created us and is in all of us. Choose who you will allow into your heart. I ask God for help and he sends what Or whom I need. I put my Faith in God.
I liked all the comments. Free choice is sacred. Never let anyone or anything take that away and protect your heart. I have gained more insight: Thank you!

Is meditating Chakras against Christianity? Absolutely without a doubt, yes.
Christianity is based on the belief that there is one God. He reveals himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He says we are to have no other gods before him. He has given us his word and the gospel. Part of that message states, “What does light have to do with darkness.”
Chakras come from Eastern Mysticism and denies the gospel completely. It seeks to have us become our own divine nature and be one with the cosmos. It comes from a practice Kundalini, which literally means “that which is coiled.” Kundalini is also the name of a goddess. The ‘uncoiling” of this goddess brings divine enlightenment. So, how can a Christian follow the false teachings about enlightenment from a snake-like goddess? The same concept of the chakras is what we see in Genesis when Satan (coiled serpent) stated to Eve that eating of the fruit would make her like a god.
This teaching denies the gospel that we are all sinners in need of a savior. It seeks to destroy the power of the blood of Christ when he died on the cross. If you can reach “enlightenment” from this meditation, then why did Christ die? Eastern Mysticism is direct contrast to Christianity. Truth cannot contradict Truth.

In very interested in this topic. I am a mother of a young 21 yr daughter that has introduced this chakra topic. As I read through the comments this scripture came to me. Matthew 7: 13-14. His Words are written on my heart. They come to me in time if need.

Who cares what freakin Hindu believes. Chakra isn’t just apart of Hindu. The methodology is the methodology period – some cultures like Native Americans call it energy points. Chakra balancing is an energy flow issue. That’s merely scientific and spiritual. We are spiritual and energy beings. That’s like saying Hindus eat garlic to cure ailments so Christians shouldn’t…. A process is a process. “Taking different aspects from religion” what does that mean? Certain aspects of life DONT BELONG to a group of people and their religion. Certain aspects are things God designed. They are God’s creations and process not ours to begin with! Everything God made has a purpose and function: garlic, lemon, sage, lavender, crystals, chakra balancing, whatever! The whole “that’s not Christian” is extremely retarded and close minded.

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. (Matt 6:22-23, KJV)
Jesus was speaking of the “single eye” as the “third eye” or inner eye of enlightenment. when humans were first created perfect, they were enlightened by this third eye, but after the fall, it is now only reached through meditation. 2
There is nothing that I know of in Christianity that would forbid meditation in the sense of clearing the mind – in fact that is positively encouraged.

Christian is so vague but in general I would say if you believe in the God of Abraham, then yes it is against your religion. Right in the Bible it says your God is a jealous God and you should have no other gods before Him. Chakras are part of the Hindu religion. Not the Christian religion.

that God exists, and everything is HIM. I agree with all the ideas of religion, except to be bound by one. I agree with taking each (important) morality and using it with your unique ability to walk through life. When we die (in my belief) we would immediately understand that only one God does exist, and that he will take us to the judgement, only to let us be the judge whilst he is there to listen and allow us to feel remourceful. I and many others cannot be sure though that anything like that happens until we die. I also don’t understand why religion puts fear among their followers, such as “Oh, you will be cast to hell, and you’re going to hell for not following this religion!” To me, that is just a mechanism to keep the belief of the religion going, and to gain more followers, when we should all just come to our own conclusion to live comfortably knowing that God truly exists through every way except for Satanism. I have only scratched the surface on my beliefs because It’s far too much for any imput.

Hello, my comment on all of the great responses is this:
I’ve been doing research recently on alot of things regarding occult beliefs, being spiritual but not religious, and many other forms of explaining the same thing; but I can’t seem to put my strong (original) beliefs in words. I will try though.
My initial belief is that one must not follow any systematic or organized way of thinking because that allows for a closed minded perception of the ideas manifested by all the other ways of looking at the same thing.
See, many people that I know (in my family) generally tell me I’m wrong because they are Roman Catholic or Christian.
Now, my interesting view point of all things spiritual, and even not spiritual is the FACT that there is only one true creator, that everything is in essence connected to God by virtue of his blueprint (if you will) on the human race. He allows us to get caught in a variety of ideas only to eventually understand that the root cause of any different belief is going to boil down to

I tried the Chakras mediation last night for the first time, before I knew it I was in a trance, and woke up feeling peaceful and energized and filled with tachyon energy. I was confusion in the morning as I went to college. I have been a Christ follower for 17 years and wondered what had happened. I felt strangely peaceful through out the day, but a peace that didn’t seem to come from Christ. This High type of feeling was robotic in nature, I felt like myself but not myself. As the peaceful feeling wore off in the middle of the next day, it seemed more like a drug to me that I wanted to fed the addiction as I returned that evening, but stopped to do more research first. Because I was thinking what a lot you Christians are thinking, “Can’t we meditate in this way leaving the Names of the Charkas out and praying with breathing. Because I did feel like last night something wasn’t right in my soul, I thought I felt something demonic happening. Something someone said on here made sense. “Emptying our mind because Satan loves a Vacuum” so I thought mediated without the Chraka with just breathing deep and talking to Christ in prayer. But I was doing this, the prayer didn’t seem natural, Jesus wants us to pray like we are talking to our best friend. I wouldn’t talk to my best friend in segments of sentences with a structured breathing in the middle, it seemed like a fake conversation. Any thoughts?

Hello, I was reading what everyone said, and I think its about obtaining knowledge. The bible says my people perish perish for the lack of knowledge. I tried the chakra meditation twice my was clear and I felt more peaceful. But I also realized that I need to study more on chakra. The Bible speaks of deception. I clearly do not want to be decieved nor open my self up to any other spirits besides God. I am searching. But until then I will not be doing chakra. There are so many ideas about what is right or wrong. But I definitely believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
Someone gave their life for me so that I may live, a blessing. And He’s not trying to take it or take from it. Thank you Lord, God bless

Joshua 1:8
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Psalm 1:2
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
Psalm 48:9
Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
Psalm 145:5
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty– and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
I think i just fell back in love with Jesus Good bye Aman Ra you can not be the one true God. Because God is telling me you will not do whats needed for me to be saved. you can not take away the sins of the world. Thank you Jesus for showing up and letting me feel the truth.

These things do exist in Christianity too, but are never to be manipulated by man as if he were a mechanic. There are plenty Christian mystics of the distant and not so past who practiced fixed postures, breath control, mantra recitation, and even kundalini, like for instance the Quakers and the Shakers, but they resorted to divine Grace as the sole solver of every problem of the intimate parts of the soul. The reals mystics of india behaved also the same and never practised mere magic to open chakras or awaken kundalini, they also referred rather to Grace as a kind of descending energy from Heaven as being the only beneficial energy and of kundalini as divine too but of the nature of divine wrath and discontent. Speaking too loudly about chakras and energies is spiritual strip partying and pornography, it has rather to be veiled and left alone to God as to a spouse for really satisfying results. One should never take up the initiative of doing those thing oneself without the guidance of a master within your religious order of call. Opening chakras all the time is no sign of evolution, these doors of the soul have to be open to real acts of charity and closed otherwise, like the gates of a castle.

There is a simple answer. Pray to whomever your own God is, Jesus, Buddha, Muhammed, your higher power, etc. and ask for guidance. If you listen, you will know which path to take. Everyone is entitled to their own spiritual beliefs. Making fun of them is not serving anyone, FatDawg.

Oh how “afraid” we’ve taught ourselves to be! Here we are, we have all these untapped potentials and undicovered abilities… yet we don’t USE any of them for fear of the damn “boogie-man!” But it is FORBIDDEN, you say. You know what? THAT is the devil (the “dark mind”) talking! And he , she, and or “it” just loves the fact that we are all too damn “scared” to DO anything or try anything “new!” Then we forbid our own children to venture out into the world of spiritual discovery, even to the extent that we don’t even want them learning philosophy or even “poetry!” What a “shame!”

Thank you Virgina and Pamela as your reasoned answered helped me develop a reasonable answer to the question. I really appreciated the answer based on the definition that they are personified by gods and how it is focused on developing inner or god-self. I think Nick is probably a new ager from the way he is talking but that is my opinion.
This may be a bit controversial but in my experience a Christian who opens himself up to false religious experiences such as opening chakras and experiencing his “inner” self or the kundalini (serpent/demon) experience within opens himself up to demons. Clearly kundalini is a demon. To be clear I became demonized and over time felt like I had less control over my physical body and something else was controlling me often times and it turned me away from scripture and prayer and got me into some weirdness and wackiness or time-wasting activities. To see references that support the idea that Christians can be demonized please see this link (the whole link covers OT and NT references of believers being demonized) http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/demon1.html
Do not give the devil a foothold is one simple reference (Eph 4:27) as is the Deuteronomic verse to not take on the practices of the worshippers of foreign/false deities.
Blessings!

Virgina

Clearly evident is the eastern religion spirituality, which influences many New Age and eastern religious spiritual-based practices, such as yoga, Reiki, and Transcendental Meditation. All of these are occult based practices and must be avoided by Catholics. The most interesting reference is the Kundalini Serpent – the eighth Chakra – since it is clearly stated in Catholic teaching that the serpent is the devil and satan (Genesis chapter 3, Apocalypse chapter 12).
One will also notice the total lack of acknowledgement of God as our Father who created us and loves us. The focus is on inner self, sometimes referred to as the “god source.” This corresponds exactly with the fact that the real serpent satan told Adam and Eve that they would be as gods by believing their inner self and ignoring the true God’s request (Genesis chapter 3). There is no mention of dependence on God nor on His Grace. Rather the focus is “consciousness,” again the inner self, which has elements of Gnosticism, and self improvement through means of merely human techniques. Such a spirituality treats the person is his own being or god. All these concepts go directly against the First Commandment and incorporate within them the following elements:
occult: relying on powers other than God and His Grace to obtain things, such as health, prosperity, etc.
atheism: denial of God as a loving Father; instead “god” is a state of consciousness.
idolatry: worship of anything other than the true God, which in this case is self or consciousness.

It’s clean–just a visual way of explaining my answer. It’s Wiley’s “Non Sequitur” comic from October 29th.

Within you is a spark of the Divine Creator – this is pure energy. It is taught that the we should regard our bodies as the Temple. Meditation and working with chakras has some very positive effects on our over all health, not to mention that it helps to raise our vibration level and assists us in putting everyday problems into perspective. It promotes clearer thinking and enhances our abilities to remain calm during stressful events in our lives. This is a spiritual exercise that you’re talking about and will allow a closer link between you and many of those in the angelic realm who are presently assisting you on your spiritual journey. Don’t be surprised if you begin receiving direct messages from some them. It is a fascinating experience.
In the end, of course, you must decide within yourself. You are not harming anybody and you know it will have a positive effect. If you still feel uncomfortable, it never hurts to say a quick prayer and ask for the Creator’s blessing before each session and a quick prayer afterwards, for granting you a tool that will help in your spiritual development.
Blessings, Nick

Pamela’s ans hits it dead on. I would also like to add that if you learned christian or biblical meditation you wouldn’t need to go looking for a spiritual life in some dead end religious practice. I studied eastern meditation for years before returning to the Lord and His meditation which mostly remains a mystery to many christians. there are many christian teachers who can guide you such as the writings of Madame Guillione and others who take seriously the command to”be still and know that I am God”.

Pamela

Deuteronomy 12
29 The LORD your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land,
30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.”
31 You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshipping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates.
The same applies today because –
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
THE FOLLOWING IS A COPY OF EMAILS TO AND FROM ME REGARDING CHAKRAS:
Subject: worshipping other gods : )
Message: you made an excellent point, however, i feel you may have slightly misunderstood the question of meditating on chakras. it’s not actually a form of worship in any way i am aware of, it is simply away of getting in touch with your body, and thinking deeply. it may be depicted in religious ways in tv shows or movies, but the essence of meditation is simply thinking deeply (which i’d encourage in churches)
how do you feel about meditation?
i’m wondering if you’ve heard bad things about it or anything like that ^^
MY ANSWER:
chakras
—noun Yoga.
any of the points of spiritual power located along the body, usually given as six in number. The points are personified by gods and can be released through the proper exercises.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/chakras
You state ‘the essence of meditation is simply thinking deeply’.
Quite so!
I would be inclined to focus on things of God –
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
There is a lot of evil out there that God hates, but Satan is deceiving us to believe the opposite.
That is obvious by some of the questions and many of the answers.
We will answer to God for every thought, act and word. Let’s try to keep them acceptable to Him.
I do not meditate in the accepted sense. I usually just focus on gratitude to God – while resting in my recliner chair (I am 60, with a few health problems), I think on all the blessings and provisions I have from God – while walking I praise Him for all I see, homes for people, gardens, sun-rises and sets.
I do not know anything bad, specifically about meditation except the suggestion to ’empty your mind’ while doing so. Satan loves a vacuum and will send demons to fill it.

jon o

i don’t see a problem with this : )
i’ve always been very interested in how the human body works, and it’s very evident that from a realistic point of view, the body does have chakras. meditating and training your body couldn’t possibly be a bad thing, as we’re even ordered to fast, and to treat our body’s as holy temples!
i wouldn’t recomend meditating on anything to whacky, as that’s just inviting trouble, but i’m quite a naruto fan myself 😉

Michael

Maybe, unless you use the Word of God as Chakras. I am a Christian, but I use to practice Taoism and found the meditation very helpful. I don’t see any reason why Taoism, for example, or at least certain parts of it, can’t be combined with Christianity.
