Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is an ancient meditation technique from India, which was originally taught by the Buddha, The vipassana meditation technique is universal and not connected with any religious organisation and can be practised by anyone without conflict with existing religious beliefs or absence of beliefs. Vipassana Meditation gradually develops one’s wisdom and equanimity. Negative behavior patterns, like for example tension, anger, greed and impatience can be diminished step by step, and positive qualities like balance, tolerance, generosity and compassion can be developed.
Vipassana meditation technique is taught at ten-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. In these 10 day course, participants learn to heighten their concentration and perception, in order to look at their own inner reality. These 10-day Courses are an introductory course to Vipassana Meditation where the technique is taught step-by-step each day, as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.
Mr. S N Goenka is the teacher of Vipassana meditation in the tradition of the late Sayagyi U Ba Khin of Burma (Myanmar). Mr. Goenka has taught tens of thousands of people in more than 300 courses in India and in several other countries, East and West. In 1982 he began to appoint assistant teachers to help him to meet the growing demand for courses. Meditation centers have been established under his guidance in India, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Nepal and other countries.[/message_box] [message_box title=” Cost:” color=”blue”]
Courses are run solely on a donation basis. No charges are made, not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from those who have already completed courses, experienced the benefits of Vipassana and wish to give others the same opportunity. Neither the teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and others who serve on the courses volunteer their time and efforts. Thus Vipassana is offered free from commercialization.[/message_box]
