Bodhisattva Way of Life?

Does anybody know of a site where I can read the entire text of Shantideva’s “The Bodhisattva Way of Life”, also known as the Bodhisattvacharyavatara? I have found it on Buddhanet.net in Tibetan, but as I cannot speak that, it’s not particularly helpful.

Any help would be appreciated – I’ll be grateful even for just a few chapters. Thanks in advance!

  • Is it the same as The Way of The Bodhisattva by Shantideva? Published by Shambala Classics? If it is the same one you desire, I have the book and you are more than welcome to it at no cost, even for shipping. Let me know. Or you can order it from Barnes and Nobles if they do not have one in stock.

  • Don’t close this yet. I will have to look. There is web site where you can purchase nearly all if not all that has been written, but it is about $120.00 in US dollars. I am planning on buying it once I get settled from a several state move. I will get you that link and see what else I have for you. You might also download (free) Baha’i Ocean and run it. It has several Buddhist writings in it as well as from several other religions. Here is the link for that.

    You might be interested in the fact that the founder of the Baha’i Faith claimed to be the Fifth Buddha, also known as the Buddha Maitreya in addition to some others. Here are a couple of quotes, and I will add the rest of what I can find in an edit..
    ============

    The Jews await the Messiah, the Christians the return of Christ, the Moslems the Mahdi, the Buddhists the fifth Buddha, the Zoroastrians Shah Bahram, the Hindus the reincarnation of Krishna, and the Atheists – a better social organization! Baha’u’llah represents all these, and thus destroys the rivalries and the enmities of the different religions; reconciles them in their primitive purity, and frees them from the corruption of dogmas and rites.

    (Abdu’l-Baha, Tablets of Abdu’l-Baha v1, p. vii)

    —————-

    There can be no doubt whatever that the peoples of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly Source, and are the subjects of one God. The difference between the ordinances under which they abide should be attributed to the varying requirements and exigencies of the age in which they were revealed. All of them, except a few which are the outcome of human perversity, were ordained of God, and are a reflection of His Will and Purpose. Arise and, armed with the power of faith, shatter to pieces the gods of your vain imaginings, the sowers of dissension amongst you. Cleave unto that which draweth you together and uniteth you.

    O Jews! If ye be intent on crucifying once again Jesus, the Spirit of God, put Me to death, for He hath once more, in My person, been made manifest unto you. Deal with Me as ye wish, for I have vowed to lay down My life in the path of God. I will fear no one, though the powers of earth and heaven be leagued against Me. Followers of the Gospel! If ye cherish the desire to slay Muhammad, the Apostle of God, seize Me and put an end to My life, for I am He, and My Self is His Self. Do unto Me as ye like, for the deepest longing of Mine heart is to attain the presence of My Best-Beloved in His Kingdom of Glory. Such is the Divine decree, if ye know it. Followers of Muhammad! If it be your wish to riddle with your shafts the breast of Him Who hath caused His Book the Bayan to be sent down unto you, lay hands on Me and persecute Me, for I am His Well-Beloved, the revelation of His own Self, though My name be not His name. I have come in the shadows of the clouds of glory, and am invested by God with invincible sovereignty. He, verily, is the Truth, the Knower of things unseen. I, verily, anticipate from you the treatment ye have accorded unto Him that came before Me. To this all things, verily, witness, if ye be of those who hearken. O people of the Bayan! If ye have resolved to shed the blood of Him Whose coming the Báb hath proclaimed, Whose advent Muhammad hath prophesied, and Whose Revelation Jesus Christ Himself hath announced, behold Me standing, ready and defenseless, before you. Deal with Me after your own desires.
